If I am not mistaken (correct me if I’m wrong) but In the first Subnautica ending once in outer space I’m pretty sure the spaceship voice says something along the lines of detecting closest phase gate so I assume Robin knows about phase gates because it’s a commonly used space travel method not specifically created by the Aliens !

I loved playing subnautica below zero, the game was so atmospheric and scary at some points stumbling across the legendary monsters

This was pretty cool. I just beat the first Subnautica yesterday and I'm excited to start this one tomorrow!

The reason Robin knows what a phase gate is because the original mission from the Aurora in Subnautica 1 was for them to build a new phase gate out in deep space where 4546B is. That's why the ship was so big to begin with, Alterra wanted to inhabit new areas of space.
