Top 10 Advice for College Students in 3D Animation

Published 2021-08-25
Hey everyone!

Since I am entering into my Senior year this Fall 2021 as an Animation major in college and will graduate in Summer 2022, I want to support other students who are interested in animation, mainly 3D animation. I feel that there are not many Youtube videos or any videos out there about college experiences as an Animation student studying 3D animation.

So I decided to make a top ten advice video for those who are interested in pursuing 3D animation in college. Personally, as someone who has been learning a lot about animation in the last 3 years of college, pre-pandemic and during the pandemic, I want to offer some guidance for you.

Here is the 10 advice summarized into a list:
Advice 1: Managing your time, take advantage of free time, don’t procrastinate.
Advice 2: Dorm vs commuting.
Advice 3: You need a website to showcase your animation work or portfolio.
Advice 4: Portable recording device for making unique sound effects not found in free sound websites, plus this makes your animation stand out.
Advice 5: Take advantage of free/discounted softwares.
Advice 6: Free download (Z-Library)/purchase cheap e-books or discount/sale/rent books.
Advice 7: Record yourself acting it out for animation reference.
Advice 8: Follow the rules for animation standards.
Advice 9: Make your own animation/personal projects, challenge yourself.
Advice 10: Laptop choice matters, powerful Gaming/Studio laptops can help with rendering and big project sizes, especially in finals/deadlines when the computer lab is full. Highly recommend Windows laptop with NVIDIA and Intel, they are optimized for 3D animation rendering.

This is the first time I have made this kind of video in this format. If you can like/subscribe/follow me on social media, I really appreciate it a lot!

If you have any suggestions for what videos you want me to make next, leave a comment!
