For those who happen to be in Turkey this weekend, it might be your last chance to catch Antalya’s Irish music session in its current form! The Scattering continues and some of the folks I captured in this video are now playing tunes in places as far away as Argentina. But this Sunday we again have visitors from overseas and Tanya’s bringing her harp, so it will be a good one. A bunch of Russians and a Clareman enter a Turkish pub… “You’ll never believe what happened next!”
After several years of regular tunes in Saint Petersburg – which still continue gathering despite all odds – I’ve felt really lucky to have one here in Antalya. Our regulars included some people I’ve known for years but barely ever played tunes with, so it was a year of musical discovery for everyone involved. We’ll see where the session ends up next!
Here’s a set of polkas we keep infecting the folks with wherever we go, from Moscow to Saint Petersburg to Ireland to Antalya. Obviously learned from the Begleys. A well-travelled lot indeed.
