In September of 2012, armed militants attacked the United States diplomatic compound in Benghazi, which resulting in the loss of four Americans, including the U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens. The other three Americans who lost their lives were Sean Smith, an Information Management Officer, and two former Navy SEALs turned CIA contractors, Tyrone S. Woods and Glen Doherty.

The attack on the diplomatic compound lasted for several hours. Following the initial assault, a CIA annex located nearby also came under attack. The security personnel at the annex engaged in a fierce firefight.

The attack sparked controversy and intense scrutiny, primarily in the United States, regarding the U.S. government's response and the adequacy of security measures provided to the diplomatic facility. Investigations were launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack, including the preparedness and response of the U.S. government, intelligence failures, and the motives of the attackers.

Numerous reports and investigations were conducted, including a congressional inquiry and an independent review board led by Ambassador Thomas Pickering and Admiral Mike Mullen. These investigations found that there were deficiencies in the security measures at the diplomatic compound and that the attack was carried out by Islamist militants with ties to extremist groups.

What incident should I talk about next? >:]

for those who don't know Sean Smith played large role in Eve Online, as something of a diplomat in game... his last words in the game were something along the lines of, "hold on, alarms going off again". Chilling. Players made a huge memorial for him in game, and crowdfunded a large sum of money for his family.

Who in their right mind wouldn't think additional security was necessary?
  • The saddest part, Stevens really was out there to help. He loved the people there and they loved him. Unfortunately, there will never be any true justice for the lives lost that day. We can only remember who they were and why they were lost.

The sad thing is the Libyans actually really liked Stevens. Thousands of citizens attended a memorial service for the man. I can only imagine the difference it would have made if he had been rescued that night at the security's first request to rescue him, and supported by air power during the raid on the CIA compound later.

I was working for triple canopy in Iraq at the time and this absolutely terrified me watching them get no reinforcements. Up until this point I believed we would had total support but this showed otherwise.

How nobody ended up in prison for this is mind boggling to me.

I always struggle with the fact that our heroes often don't live to fight the next battle. You see time after time, our fictional heroes live on through movies or books, but real heroes don't get a sequel. For us, they died, and I could never adequately put into words how much I respect that. I don't think I'm worthy.
  • Thanks for putting this out. It's nice to get a reminder of who the real patriots are.

Never forget the despicable manner in which the Government reacted to this incident. "What Difference does it Make?!?!" Never forgive them either.

It's disappointing to see the leaders of our country be so intent on deciding to not take action. Trust our soldiers. They have put thousands of hours into training to serve our country, and are fully capable, physically and mentally, of doing so. It isn't fair to say that sending in support would have saved their lives, nobody can guarantee what could have happened. But I do believe that our firepower and experience could have saved many more lives that day.

On my way to Alaska, driving through northern Oregon in 2014, I saw a billboard in a farmyard that read : "If Chelsea Clinton had been in Benghazi, no one would have died" Another terrific video ! Thank You
  • You explained this way better than any news network! Another amazing video, thank you so much for your hard work

I love these stories. I’ve seen the movie and read the declassified papers but this still makes the hair on my neck stand up.

I am a US Army vet and I live in Oregon City and my kids attend the high school. There is a wrestling scholarship fund in Tyrone Woods name and also a very nicely done children's/dog park near the high school named after him with a Navy Seal Embossed memorial set in stone. We will be honoring his memory this weekend. May God Bless and Protect The Sheepdogs Among Us.

“13 Hours” was an incredible movie, and a good enough portrayal of what happened. The often criticized choice of not converting the stateside reaction kind of makes sense, and is represented well enough through the actions of the station chief.
  • The actions of these few good men took, speak louder than any words can attempt to convey. Rest Easy Brothers.

Your videos are like art man. The story telling is Hollywood level. Ty for what you do
