We gathered a 9 person panel of NFL Media researchers, talent, producers, and historians, all whom have a deep understanding of players from the 20’s and 30s, as well as modern players from today’s game, and asked each to vote for the player who they believed was the “Best to wear it”. The following are the results of that vote/discussion. It’s all subjective so we expected plenty of discourse from fans, and that was the point! Enjoy accordingly!

Matt ryan might be the only human on planet earth who's hero was tim couch
  • Jim Brown was so great that he rushed for over 1,500 yards in 3 seasons each and 1 season with over 1,860yrds and what people forget is in his 4 first seasons, it was only a 12 game season and only a 14 game regular season when he played his last 4. And despite the league expansion to 16 regular season games. Brown is still the first and one of the only running backs to have a 100+ rushing TD career. Oh, just to put a topping on his 9 year career, he never MISSED a single game. And the cherry on top, he recieved for 2,500yrds and 20 touchdowns.

78: Bruce Smith (all time sack leader) 88: Alan Page (first of only 2 defensive players to be league MVP) Those numbers shocked me.

When Ed Reed tells you that he would give up his HOF spot, that is true respect. All respect to Steve Atwater.
  • @bigmark2.046
Thank you for simply displaying that the NFL did indeed exist WAY before 1980. So many creators on YouTube seem to miss that fact.
  • @jan6792
Calvin Johnson wasn’t even mention for the best player wearing 81
  • @jamessgian7691
So crazy that Roger Staubach doesn’t hit the top three 12’s.
  • @Just_Pele
A hate to see Earl Campbell (34) get pushed out, he's one of my all-time favorite backs, but losing to Sweetness? Okay, I'll let it stand. 😃
  • @IronyAmI
By the way, Len Dawson said the Chiefs could Un-Retire the number 16 so that Joe Montana could wear it. But Joe said it’s alright, I’ll just wear 19. Much respect.
  • @joethorn3707
I feel like you can’t talk about Larry Fitzgerald without mentioning how absolutely efficient he was at catching the ball. He also owns a weird stat line that I absolutely love mentioning lol
  • @user-xb4pu5kc5n
13:27 Running Back's Golden Number, 32 Jim Brown(Cleveland Browns) OJ Simpson(Buffalo Bills) Marcus Allen(Oakland Riders)
  • @alexstoev11
It’s funny how they said Steve Atwater wasn’t in the hall of fame but literally a week after this video was posted he was elected to the hall of fame
  • @anthonyross7587
“According to our panel” of 9 people...? That’s kind of important information
  • @brianallison1913
I grew up a 49ers fan but I got to point out the absolute humbleness of that last fact on #20. Man he was so entertaining to watch. There will never be another Barry Sanders. I do have to question 73. That should at least be a tie because John Hannah may have been on a bad team but he is arguably the best lineman to ever play the game.
