The best explanation of the Vulcans I remember a friend saying, "Vulcans do have emotions but, unlike the rest of us, they do not let emotions have them. They are also perfectly capable of telling a lie, if it is logical to do so."
  • @kath3291
I think the struggles so many of us have with our emotions has always made Vulcans intriguing. It really hit me when Tuvok said "Do not mistake composure for ease" as that is something I can really relate to

As Spock turned human pointed out, Vulcans aren’t void of emotion, they have extremely STRONG emotions and contain them with years of mental training. Suddenly being human knocked down those walls, and made him snap at Sam Kirk over not clearing away his dirty dishes from lunch fast enough.

I will say that as an autistic person who strongly identifies with Data (among others), he definitely has emotions prior to getting his emotion chip - maybe they're harder for him to interpret (a fairly common experience among ND people in general) and not expressed in the way many humans would recognise, but Ode to Spot is definitely full of love for his cat, he can appreciate art, and he cares about his friends.

I heard "Hormones are raging, synapses blazing" and my head echoed "My Pon Farr's gone to hell but how are you?" Thank you for that earworm 😸

Would explain a lot why I’m fascinated with Vulcans. And having a great understanding to my autism.
  • @markpaxton144
As someone with Aspergers Syndrome, which is a form of high functioning autism, I can appreciate the Vulcans and their neurodivergence appealing to those of us with autism in its many forms
  • We live about 20 miles from Vulcan, Alberta. As an American, it is one of the coolest little towns I have ever visited in North America. Between the Spock memorials, the Trek Station, the Star Trek-themed murals on the buildings, and the Enterprise-shaped streetlights on the main street...Vulcan is a super fun town that is definitely worth a visit if you are visiting Banff or Calgary, especially if you are in the area in mid-June for Spock Days. Can't forget about Quark's consignment store! Great content--we enjoyed this, thanks!

I liked Spock experimenting with smiling and laughing since he was smiling in TOS pilot.

"On Vulcan the method is called Tal-Shia. It was considered a merciful form of execution in ancient times." Most frequently missed Easter Egg...this is where the Romulan Tal Shiar gets its name! Yay Alberta! Been to Vulcan many times!

Vulcans are my favorite species in Star Trek, that's why I was happy that T'Lyn became a crew of the Cerritos, I hope she would become a main character in Lower Decks.
  • @GSBarlev
Props to the town of Vulcan choosing the Connie-refit Enterprise A. While I Stan the Excelsior-class B, the A is without a doubt the most Enterprise Enterprise.

"Off to another Chapel"! HAHAHA!!! Brilliant! Thanks for the vid TC Team!

As a gray Ace person i always found it comforting that abstaining was an option.
  • Vulcan was also the name of a hypothetical planet that many astronomers believed orbited the Sun between Mercury and the Sun. There is mention of it dating back to the 17th century with some even claiming that they had observed it with telescopes.
  • There is a Vulcan, Michigan. It is in the Upper Peninsula. near Iron Mountain.
  • @Geocookie21
Can I just say thank you for explaining the Autism/Vulcan thing? And in such a good and understanding way. Nearly made me cry when I heard you talking about it.
  • @mrtrek2117
I loved the way Spock handled the 3 witches in Cats Paw, completely un-fazed by them!
  • @StephenLeGresley
I would love to see more of the history of Vulcans either through time travel or flashbacks. Ever since Spock said that Vulcan's history was brutal even by human standards I've been fascinated. It could also give a glimpse into the seperation of the Vulcan and Romulan people which would make for a fantastic long Trek. Thanks for the video and all the hard work you all put into them.

As someone relocating to Alberta in the next few years, it is my new life ambition to become the mayor of Vulcan.
