This is a discussion of favorite books for 5th graders. My 5th grade students love to read, and recommend these books to each other. Many of the books have been read aloud in 5th-grade classes. These books are some of my kid's favorite books, and all are very engaging for various reasons. Some are books I would describe as heartwarming stories centered around family and overcoming trials. Some books appeal to athletic kids and books appealing to students who enjoy fiction set during WWII. All of the books mentioned in this video are in my Amazon store. Just click the link below. Happy reading!! #booksfor5thgraders #childrensbooks

Hello Teachers! My name is Melanie Howell, and I have been a classroom teacher for more than 20 years. The majority of my teaching years have been spent in fifth grade. I love getting up and going to school because no two days are ever the same. I love pouring myself into the lives of my students, AND I love learning something new every day. Teaching allows me to be a servant and a leader. It is all about making a difference in the life of a child.

I purchased Refugee for my 5th grader yesterday and he is really into it. The pace of the book is exactly as you described and he dove right into. My son mentioned this was the darkest book he has ever read. After reading a couple of chapters, I have to agree that the content is a little heavy for kids who are naieve and sheltered about these about these topics. Just wanted to give a heads up to parents considering this book.

  • Resistance was GREAT! I loved it, thank you for recommending!
  • Thank you for making these recommendation videos! As a first year teacher, it's great to hear insight about books kids already are known to like instead of just guessing for my own class.

  • Thank you for the book recommendations. My 5th grader is very much into The Carver Chronicles series
  • I recommend “The Distance Between Us” it’s about a Reyna Grande’s tragic past with her parents. This book was amazing I was reading it over the summer non stop! My sister gave me this book and told me if I wanted it, of course I said yes. I love love loved the book not only was it funny it was really heartbreaking. This is a 5th grade book and if you do AR this book is worth 11 points there’s also one for young readers you can also take that quiz since it’s practically the same and more AR points! This book was amazing it takes awhile to read but it’s worth it!!!
