Good tip with string tied to can. I will use that approach, raise bottom, as well as border up the 3 sides. Thx!

I hope this will work. I have an old rusty trap and raccoons have ruined the treadle. I was able to straighten it out a bit, and was successful in trapping 2 raccoons, but this last one is wily. I have not experienced them walking away with the trap. I had set the trap in the grass last year and the raccoon tore up the grass trying to escape. What a mess. Thank you for this tip!

To avoid raccoon walking the cage away, tie piece of plywood to the cage bottom together and it can't touch on the floor to move it.

That was a female raccoon. They are not as fierce.
