I love how Laura mouthed the correct pronunciation of "buhl" at the 4:29 mark. Excited for her to get to visit the States.

Such a positive vibe about you two. Or as my mum would say "such a lovely couple".
  • in germany we have two times a year the opportunity of an "verkaufsoffenen Sonntag". one before winter and one before summer to give the people of the land to go to towns and buy stuff they need for upcoming time. this is a left over from a long time ago and was called "Mantelsonntag" before, because the land people had the chance to buy coats for the winter.
  • I don't know what it's like in Oregon but prepare Laura for showing ID if she wants alcohol. I was in New York and Boston with my dad who's in his sixties (I'm thirty three) and in both places we bought wine from a shop and they asked for my AND my dad's ID. In Boston my dad was buying it and I was just standing next to him. He showed his passport but then they asked for mine too as I was clearly with him but I didn't have mine on me. So we couldn't have the wine. I'm a grown up. I have a beard. I have two children. I don't look like a teenager. Still had a great time though.

Hi Nalf - I'm a German living near Hillsboro (Oregon). When my family member come to visit, one of the highlights for them is the Powell bookstore in Portland. They also like the Saturday Market, but that has gone downhill in the last couple of years. A ride out to central Oregon, to see some desert, native shops, etc, was also a big hit. Regardless, your lady will have a good time, there is a lot to do here that us "locals" take for granted. Cheers, Peter

You have to visit Nördlingen. Little further than Dinkelsbühl, but a lot more history. A meteroit crashing, Neil Armstrong training for his walk on the moon in Nördlingen and a whole walk around on the city wall. Nördlingen is even in the Lonley Planet 😅 but everyone goes to Dinkelsbühl 😅

Take her to Powells and Costco. And Taco Time and Chipotle. Take her to Mt St Helens. And then Seattle to ride a ferry on a clear day for Mt Rainier views, or go up the Space Needle. Watch a Seahawks home game? Go to the Pacific coast and enjoy the white noise of a real ocean. Rockaway Beach, grilling oysters on your hotel balcony, or just enjoying local fresh seafood on the Oregon coast. And definitely take her to Council Crest Park in Portland, where you stand on a viewpoint platform and see 5 mountains in the Cascade range all around you, and you can whisper and someone can hear you 20 meters away (magic!).
  • I guess this will be an entire new Christmas experience for Laura this year. It would be interesting how many differences she counts comparing the usual German traditions of her family to the Alfieri's Christmas traditions. But also what is nearly similar....songs, food, games etc. .... well I guess this video will be the nicest Nalf-Christmas-present for us subscribers. 😃!! 🎁 Oh, what will there be inside ???👀
  • I so feel Laura's excitement about prize tags and christmas presents in the morning. CRAZY stuff! How do you even sleep through the night??? 😱😄
  • I guess it was just a so called "verkaufsoffener Sonntag" ( I try to translate it to English: Sunday of open stores/sales) which takes place at some days during the year usually when special markets or official festivities of the city or special dates like Saint Martin with light shows, lanterns and little market or Saint Nikolaus during Christmas time are celebrated :)
  • I’d like to take a moment and thank you for sharing Schwäbisch Hall with me. I miss the Hall a lot. Following you has brought back a lot of fond memories. Following the Unicorns, the last three years was fun however, you’ve made it enjoyable with your stories.
  • @Icebreake
You and Laura should definitely come and visit Burghausen next year. Each year there's a big medieval festival on it's castle, which is the worlds longest with a length of over 1 km. I would be happy to show you around!
  • 6:38 My grandparents own 40 Acres of land overlooking Hagg Lake. I'd love you to introduce her to the massive amounts of land people own, especially in Oregon, for "no reason"!
  • Show her neighborhoods with Christmas lights and decorations.
  • @Art-kz6zf
Was laughing all the way through the second half of the video. You two have such positive vibes together. Wish you both an amazing Advent season and Christmas holiday! 🙂🎅👍

5:54 NALF complaining because of the cold, meanwhile on the left you can see guy sporting shorts and t-shirt.
  • @TheMarslMcFly
You have your German Butterbrezen Ranking, so obviously you need to take Laura to every available American Fast Food Restaurant, and have her rank them from best to worst :D
  • Thanks for your videos NALF, I really like them a lot, although I am german. I think your videos shows some things we don't appreciate enough or forgot about it. For example the walks you do a lot of people in Germany rediscovered in the corona time. In german language we have several words for going on a walk with different focus. "Spaziergang" (take a break, get out for other impressions, nature), "Streifzug" (with a target to discover a specific area), "Schaufensterbummel" (shopping), Wanderung (nature, more sport focus). And of course there are bad things we always do and never thought about them, too.
