Hey, remember when the Jets signed a vet to complete their team and he tore his achilleas 10 minutes into the season? This pick is inspired imo.

For the last couple of months we had to listen to you Rich and guests talk about how the NFL teams not developing quarterbacks. Well they are developing a quarterback in Atlanta.
  • @Trinison7
Somebody needs to get Baldy on the phone because Baldy is the one who predicted this while he was swimming in his pool a couple weeks ago
  • @davidcbickham
Rodgers is damn near 40, how long is he going to play for? Jets probably should've taken a QB
  • People pretending like Kirk Cousins isn't going to be 36 coming off an Achilles & could pop it any minute during the season
  • @eincan1313
You can’t compare this to Green Bay. They took Rodgers at 27 and Love at 26. This was the 8th pick in a loaded draft. Plus Penix will be 27 going on 28 in 3-4 years. It may work out but I don’t see how you justify this today.

As a Chiefs fan, this is something that makes sense. I'm gonna tell you Falcons fans what makes sense. We had Alex Smith, and you all Forget Patrick Mahomes as a Rookie sat on the bench, then we were off and running. With Cousins you have two years, and can build the offensive line, plug in Penix and be ready and take care of the 5th year option so basically you have 3 years on a rookie deal. Allows Penix to heal up. Allows cousins to keep the Falcons competitive and be good for years to come

Um.. The JETS signed a QB and we're "all taken care of" and see how that worked out.
  • @DannyKaffee
Ian is carrying water for the Falcons front office. This is the price for getting inside information. I wonder if his contact is Rich McKay or Terry Fontenot. Probably Fontenot.
  • @jeanfourcade
Cousins, 36, is on a 2 year deal. Perfect timing to draft and develop a 1st round QB under a solid vet. Why is everyone so riled up ?!?
  • @randy7928
It makes sense if they feel like Cousins will give them enough wins that they will not have another opportunity to draft this early. I'm not sure how Cousins' contract is structured, but plenty of QB's have benefited from sitting a year or two.
  • It's always interesting to watch teams weigh what is more important, having stability at QB for the future or winning a Super Bowl now? Green Bay is a perfect example, they have Jordan Love but what happens if he doesn't win a Super Bowl, and what if not picking him was used to get someone that would have gotten Rodgers another Superbowl? The Packers have had the luxury of not worrying about QB for 30ish years, with 2 Hall of Famers, and 2 Super Bowls. Is 2 Super Bowls in that timespan enough to be happy with stability at QB?

People are really over thinking the Penix pick!! It was absolutely the perfect pick. Possibly found their franchise quarterback. Two years of Cousins will only benefit Penix.
  • @paulsmith9198
Cousins has 2 years of guaranteed money. Heck, Penix can blow out another knee and fully rehab by the time he'll actually be needed.
  • Here's the faulty logic in Ian's take, if Kirk goes out and becomes a two-time MVP, will the Falcons really let him go early so they can plug in a 26yr old guy who hasn't played much if any NFL football? "Oh but he could be the next Jordan Love," he could also flame-out like most QB prospects. It's also one thing if Kirk was a longtime Falcon and the team were thinking about transitioning, but he's not. He's a goddamn free agent signing they just gave $100m GTD to.
  • @Shigzmi
People keep forgetting jordan love was 3 years younger than penix when drafted.
  • @USAFVET1998
I personally like this move, and I think having him sit behind Cousins for a while and learning is gonna be beneficial. They’re playing the long game! Brilliant!! 👍
  • @btbarr16
Kirk is 35 Rich, they absolutely should be thinking about 2027.
  • @sirtavion20
I love this pick for us with cousins foot being not completely healed. We just shored up the position for at least the next 7 years. After what we dealt with in Mariota and Ridder... we're good now
  • @CTRanks13
But if you think about it the Jets kind of did the same thing at a different position. It's just insurance so that we have a quality player when a veteran inevitably leaves the team or god forbid gets injured.
