Woodturning: The Engagement Box!

This ring box is made from Asian Tiger Eye Burl, which is an evergreen species native to Southeast Asia. To my knowledge it is not endangered, but the wood is sometimes harvested for medicinal purposes. I had originally planned to use brass barrel hinges instead of the exposed hinge and latch. It was almost 2AM when I decided to try installing barrel hinges and I completely botched the process. So the bandsaw came to the rescue!

That box is shining with love and absolutely beautiful! It will be treasured by your future family for ever and one day, when asked, your grand son will proudly explain that his artist grandpa made it when he proposed and since then it is used for that purpose from one generation to the next. David, I have always enjoyed your videos...I tend to watch them the moment I get the notifications...but seriously, this was a great one...until the end, when it became EPIC! Congratulations! I had (have?) tears in my eyes, remembering the time I proposed to my future wife. I hope people watch the entire video and not cut out early...they are in for a wonderful experience!

OK. Now that I found that box of tissue and have gotten myself back together a little bit, Wow, just wow! That is an amazing piece. What a thoughtful, elegant way to present the ring. How could anyone say no to that! OK. That's the obvious. But the way you put that video together was just as exquisitely done. I edit music videos for my channel and use a lot of special effects etc. But your skill at presenting something that has to be shot more less in real time is amazing. I'm constantly trying to balance my ADD with my OCD (lol!) so I rarely watch an entire video unless it is special in some way. You had me from the time you pulled out that beautiful piece of wood. But from there all the multiple camera angles, each one right on time and the perfect angle to show the progress from step to step so to speak, that doesn't happen via magic. My friend, you did a great job with the ring box AND the video. Kudos!
