Saturday Sunrise @ Tesla Semi Factory - July 20, 2024

Published 2024-07-20
I wanted to get out early on this Saturday for two reasons. To capture the sunrise over the Nevada desert east of the construction site and to see if there would be construction activity on a Saturday.

This is another ultra rapid Tesla project and I appreciate you covering it. Thanks

Thanks for the coverage, and for picking up on nomenclature. It sounds as though you see this plant as a multiplicity of final assembly lines. Consider that it must also make most of the parts. Stampings, Forgings, Motors, Windows, Plastics, Wiring, Batteries, Seats, Painting, Electronics, Etc. Not all of course but Tesla makes a lot of its own stuff.

keep up the good work ! can't wait to watch this every week. :)

Correct - cement is the powder that goes into the mix . Portland cement is a popular one. Concrete is the finished product mixed with gravel, sand, cement powder and any chemical additive to attain some desired characteristics. There are many more mixes than that but two types are most common… and used generally everywhere with additional mixes for industrial uses..
  • You're going to be the Joe T. of Giga Nevada, get ready for your numbers to skyrocket! I do get a bit airsick when you do the 360s and pan down, I recommend slow panning shots like Joe does, stop and focus on the new & cool stuff, then slowly move along. This will give your audience the best possible views of the site. Thanks!

That’s pretty good progress on foundation layout, excavation and rebar frames for the foundations.
  • That is a preprogrammed ‘Mastershot’ with the DJI Air 3 drone. As they say in software engineering parlance, it’s a feature not a bug. 😂

Let's move to music, like Brad's work. Leave the construction/ production sharing to someone else. Thank you for what you are doing, no neede to push a narrative.
  • 🌈🌎🐉 Fr Canoogan says Heya 2 🌈🌎🐉 Zanegler...so good to have a fellow adding to the 🌈🌎🐉 Archives. I love watching construction...especially buildings by 🌈🌎🐉Tesla... But moreover...because big trucks are such a massive part of global daily human endeavour, along with the noise & diesel pollution...so knowing there will be less of that, in a matter of 2-3 solar years, is environmentally hopeful. 🐝🌈🌎🐉😄🫶
  • I know the semi will be the main product produced at this factory. But I also hope that the expand to selling chassis… freight-liner and other companies sell lots of chassis for box trucks, RV’s, buses, food trucks and more… I think with thier superior technology and production they could make lots of advancements in commercial world. Do you think Tesla will develop a cargo van, and if so do you think they would manufacture here?

I would be surprised if those are all separate 'production lines'. I'd expect it to be conceptually similar to Giga Texas, with large sections of the factory dedicated to various parts production, stamping, casting, painting, and assembly. The final assembly line for Cybertrucks is a 3 dimensional path going up/down/left/right/forward where the parts are all then brought together and assembled. I would think this is the approach they'll take for the line here. My guess would be 2 or perhaps 3 distinct 'lines', just based on what I've seen at Austin.

The # of footings at some level of prep makes me think this will go up very fast once we get past all of this being poured. I would love to this region from the air before all this was built up.

I am thinking of the loading bays etc that happen outside. There is not much space on the west. Much more on the south (or is it north? - I am in South Africa where the sun goes the other way). Also, the lanes look much wider in NS direction.
  • @swparsons
Aren’t the perimeter trenches filled with concrete?
  • @dmpease01
Thanks so much for cover this site. At 5:40, are the perimeter trenches filled with concrete, insulation, or a fabric in the bottom of the trench?
  • @TomTom-cm2oq
Did this unknown guy just reveal something incredible about Semi production line length?
