Where and when does the history of Europe begin? The traces lead to ancient Greece, and more precisely to Crete. Here we not only find the first high culture of the continent, but also the founding myth, to which it owes its name: The story of the kidnapping of the Phoenician princess Europa by the Greek god Zeus. Follow narrator Christopher Clark as he recounts the history of the European continent through the centuries in the 6-part documentary series.

This is insane! How is it possible to watch a documentary of this quality for free? With amazing video material and narration of the best academic quality. Wow! Can’t wait for part 3!
  • Magnificent! Eloquent, fluent and smart sounding orator. His tone of voice, even though formal, is direct, sincere, and grabs one's attention. Pitch perfect!

Truly an amazing documentary. It's not just the perfect visualization but also Chistopher Clark that tells the stories in a immensely fascinating way.
  • This presentation is, as you Brits say, "top shelf!" What a treasure... thank you! Love from the USA!

To me, Christopher Clark is one of the great history explainers of our time. Always informative, entertaining, deeply humane and accurate to the point. Not only in the documentaries, but also in his books. I'm just reading "Iron Kingdom" about Prussia's history - it's just excellent. I am very grateful that he came over to tell us about our history again and again. Thank you for uploading this great documentary series.

Perfect!!! The narrator is unpompous, knowledgeable, and easy to learn from. The music is lovely and just right…it complements rather than drowns the speaker. Thank you so much for a classy documentary. Can’t get enough! ~Linda from Montana~

I adored this documentary. As i greek i can say that there are some important missing parts of ancient greek history ( Philosophy, history, medicine, criticism, maths, olympics, sparta and its oen democratic principles - public education, equality in fortune). Great alexander and macedonians didn t conquered greece, because they were part of it ( same language, religion, traditions, participation at olympics). Actually ancient cities were often fighting one another. They are called greece because everytine needed they were united and because of what is known as "panhellenic bonds". Though i totally understand that you cannot include every detail in such a documentary. Thank you very much for the great job. The narrator is awesome!
  • I can already see how well and in depth this is going to be, 👏🏻
