Alcoholism, unemployment and suicide are problems associated with Native American reservations in the US. But a new generation of young activists are dedicating themselves to a brighter future. Benjamin Zand from the BBC's Pop-Up team is on a reservation in South Dakota -- in the heart of America's midwest.

But mainly Britain has absolutely no place to lecture anyone on cultural genocide
  • It's very heartbreaking to see them been a minority in their own land.

I live in Toronto Canada the government messed around with our native people years ago they also killed a person cold blood and got away with it but the natives stood up and fought for what little they had pretty sure it out a fright in our government well armed well organized and had each other's backs love our native people respect

Amen I love this video as I decent from a great grandmother that was full Lakotah Sioux she’d tell me stories as a little boy. I’d absolutely love to know my Lakotah family. I don’t even know where to begin. I’ve always prayed for a good death as she’d tell me about her father and grandfather who were Native warriors and hang on to every word she’d say. I ended up naming my son after our blood line giving him the name Dakota. May someday I’m able to find my native family. I’d absolutely love that!

They should make a documentary next on Australian people talking about how they were deported from their homeland.

It's quite sad how rough there lives are. There being forgotten 💔
  • I live in New York City and I am starting to learn about the Lenape nation, the Native Americans that lived in New York City and supposedly sold Manhattan to the Dutch for 24 dollars worth of trinkets back in the 1600s. When I was a kid, I had a hard time finding the name of the Native Americans that once lived here! I am learning that the Lenape nation still survives and now live in Oklahoma. I've never been to South Dakota nor Oklahoma so I don't know how long the flight is from New York City but I would like to visit. And as a daughter of Caribbean immigrants, as someone who was born and raised in New York, I would like to know more about the Lenape nation. I do agree that this place is a stolen country but at this point, all any of us can do is give respect to Native Americans.

i'm from India, and love these People. Love to all.
  • As true as this is if you think about it every country is a stolen county. Every land in the world has been conquered at one time or another. The problem is humanity is cruel and selfish. Sadly it will always be this way.
