Dawn French Has No Shame – Here's Why You Shouldn't Either

In this chat, Fearne and Dawn explore why when we have low tolerance for others making mistakes, we’re likely judging ourselves for our mistakes too. So, in order to have more self-compassion, we have to talk about the cringey times we’ve held inside for fear for being shamed.
They also discuss the best ways to apologise when we’re in the wrong, and to allow space for robust debate that might just change our minds. Plus, why it’s so important to be able to say “I don’t know”.
Dawn’s book, The Twat Files, is out now.

Dawn French was the first guest Fearne interviewed for Happy Place back in 2018, we're so thrilled to have her back for a second time 💛
-
I long to hear people say “ I don’t know” instead of pretending to know everything.
-
I've had an extremely soft spot for Ms. Dawn French since I was a child thanks to the Vicar of Dibley. She is genuinely a breath of fresh air ❤❤

I'm an American girl who LOVES Dawn French. What a brilliant talent. 🥰💖💕...truly an amazing woman.

I really loved this conversation - a meeting of the minds of 2 inspiring, warm and empathetic women. I really appreciated the discussion about the culture we now find ourselves in and resisting dominant narratives. I totally agree that we should be receptive to owning our mistakes, apologise - but I also think it's OK to not take on everyone's critique or correction of our behaviour as 'wrong' as fact. It's OK to appreciate the other person's perspective but kindly hold firm to our own. And agree to disagree

Being a younger person who would have been telling Dawn to catch up, you grow a bit older and learn more about the world and then start to realise that those people who seemed out dated in perspective actually have a wise reason for their mindset. Every generation wants to change everything, but not all change turns out to be what’s best.

I have listened to just the first 16 mins of this podcast for the very first time, and it is striking such a significant chord with the way I feel life and humans have become more divided, than more connected and open to others thoughts through listening and processing, than the single-minded, entitled viewpoints of having to be right. I applaud and champion this openness of conversation, and wish that there was more of it in the mainstream.

I so agree with Dawn French about the current culture of intolerance. Really enjoyed this discussion

Thank you for sharing this, lovely listen. Started to cry when you talked about 'shame' . Its the most dangerous human emotion regarding mental health, goes straight to our survival needs and impact of exclusión and not belonging with a tribe.
-
Every word spoken by these two, makes perfect sense and is so reassuring! I couldn't agree more with all that was said. 👍
-
I hope this gets a million listens because ppl really need to hear this message❤

How many of us are haunted by our twatery in the past? The sudden recollection followed by the guttural 'oh no' reaction?😂😂😂
-
A beautiful conversation between two beautiful people

Oh my goodness! Sense at last, compassionate insight, real, honest. Felt like I was sitting with amazing friends watching this. Thank you ladies . ❤
-
Please ladies stop being frightened of having an opinion. It's okay to have an opinion why don't you both try it.
-
25:24 what mistakes has JK actually made? It would be nice to actually have a robust conversation instead of just endlessly talking about having robust conversations.
-
How wonderful to share this conversation, the fabulous Dawn & Ferne. Love your conversations. Thank you. 💖🏴

Life is about getting messy, making mistakes, learning and developing. It irritates me how polished everything is supposed to be straight out of the gate and that noone gets an allowance for making a mistake, even though everyone is making mistakes all of the time. We have to stop kidding ourselves that life is like an Instagram filter and we need to be more tolerant and nicer to people. The world has become a very aggressive place. :/
