Knox County investigators walked into a house of horrors Nov. 28, 2016. Prosecutors say Joel M. Guy Jr. is the one who created it.

Guy, 32, is charged with plotting his parents' murders and then savagely following through -- surprising Joel Guy Sr. and Lisa Guy the Saturday after Thanksgiving in their Goldenview Lane home, attacking them with a knife and them cutting up their bodies for disposal.

A Knox County Criminal Court jury is hearing the case. Testimony was to start Sept. 28.

Guy had driven up from his Louisiana apartment for what his family thought would be one last gathering at the West Knox County home before the Guys packed up and moved to a Hawkins County home.

Relations appeared strained that holiday weekend. The parents were ready to cut off Guy's financial support. He wasn't happy about it, prosecutors allege.

The reclusive, bookish Guy had been a student off and on at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Now his support was coming to an end.

Evidence indicates he killed his father in an exercise room and then attacked his mother after she came home from a shopping trip.

By all accounts, his mother doted on him.

Guy Sr. suffered more than 40 stab wounds. Mrs. Guy had 31 stab wounds to her back and buttocks, according to the prosecution.

Warning: The details of this case are graphic.

He is the complete definition of the phrase “ a face only a mother could love”

Although very different people, Joel Jr and Chandler Halderson remind me of each other. Both immature, narcissistic, spoilt children who were inconvenienced by their supportive parents and cold bloodedly did horrific things to the people who loved them most

I liked the rebuttal to the defence summing up: as well as dealing with the issues raised by the defence, I appreciated that she allowed herself to become angry, including anger that this wretched man used his mother's money to buy the dissolving agents and the medical supplies he used to treat the injuries he sustained in butchering his parents.
  • He looks like he is enjoying, reliving this. Vacant. Couldn't even imagine what the family is going through, listening to this and seeing his lack of emotion.

He's completely detached from reality. Why didn't he just plead guilty? Just to put the family through all this. And why does he have file folders and write things down?
  • He disgusts me. This is so hard to believe. Beyond what I would think plausible in fiction.. and it’s real. Those poor folks. Nightmare..

Anyone else notice how he intently watched the crime scene photo slideshow? Typically, in the other trials I've watched, the murderers can't even look at the photos of their victims. He, on the other hand, couldn't seem to get enough. He must be a sociopath bc he clearly has no empathy or remorse.

After listening to the evidence stacked against Joel Guy, my mathematical estimate suggests that the chances of winning the mega lottery is 3 times higher than Joel being declared not guilty.

Why was he outgoing and happy? Because he knew a payday was coming!

This is very heart breaking, don't know how anyone can do that to their Own parents

I’ve never seen a trial so calm and smooth like this 1. I think it’s because both the prosecutor and the defendant attorneys don’t have that angry attitude or they are not arrogant like the usual behavior making every single person in court, including juries, feeling hostile and negative emotions.. I think this is how a trial should be, also the judge is so patient and polite with every person in court! All this helps to have a positive atmosphere free from verbal fights, at the end there is no confusion and juries can bring the right sentence..

how sad, he is really enjoying reliving what he did. i am surprised he is not insane , there are no words for what this person is. the family , my heart goes out to them ,
  • He makes this face like okay when can I go back to my prison cell now

The defense attorneys knew they would lose. I salute them for being an important part of the trial. They were needed to force the prosecution to make sure they got the right guy and didn't convict an innocent person.
