  • "This album is a beautiful mess". That was a perfect way to describe it! It is eclectic, at times weird, to be sure, but it's also got some all-time classics on it! The Beatles were fearless, and they also knew how to poke fun at themselves and everyone else, besides! They wanted to get away, it appears, from the artifice of the "Sgt. Peppers"-mode of production and just strip it all down and do some crazy songs. The White album is not my favorite Beatles album but that doesn't mean it doesn't still have some of the greatest tunes of their catalog!

John: The Walrus was Paul Darius: what? 😂 You’ll see when you listen to Magical Mystery Tour
  • @lesliecermak6473
Your ears aren’t wrong: It feels disjointed because there was very little collaboration on this album. More double tracking of individual singers’s voices than the Beatles usual three-part harmonies. They were doing their own things in the studio, and booking separate rooms just to get music recorded. They really gave their all to make a good album for Abbey Road, but there are some gems here. And a side note that I’m sure others will tell you: Eric Clapton plays the lead guitar solo in While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

The “wooo ooo oooos” in Back in the USSR reference bands like The Beach Boys. Who had a California surf sound. (If you look up there song “I Get Around” you’ll see what I mean). But the Beatles added some irony to it and made it about Communist USSR instead of the USA.

Piggies is a metaphor, a critique of rich people who can never get enough.
  • "Julia" is about John Lennon''s late mother. Very deep, sad, but beautiful John Lennon song. Wow.
  • @AMGOOOO0000D
Happiness is a warm Gun is John Lennon, it is one of his best vocals ever, listen to it again and just listen to the vocals especially in the last part
  • @damienhenning541
Blackbird WAS indeed written as an Ode to the USA Civil Rights movement of the 60's. It meant a lot to Paul :)
  • The “child” on Bungalow Bill is Johns wife Yoko. Also, the guitar solos on While My Guitar were done by Eric Clapton

The reason some people say The White Album is trash is because it’s the most disjointed of their albums. With albums like Abbey Road, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper’s the whole thing flows together very well. In the White Album it’s verrrry long and the songs don’t really flow well together. HOWEVER since it is so long, it has the highest quantity of bangers out of any Beatles album imo. So if you wanna look at it that way then it is one of their best.

Your Reaction to Martha My Dear is so spot on. Everyone discounts that song. That song is Pure Heat and one of my favorite Beatles songs 🔥🔥🔥🔥
  • @beckygrant2258
This album shows off the Beatles ability to write songs in several genres: rock and roll, ballads, music hall sing alongs, country western, blues music, whimsical tunes, lullabies, pop, and music and one song in old-timey style like an old 78 rpm record.
  • @nosredna2
You are hilarious! Thanks for the most entertaining reaction channel ever! I’m 75 and love seeing today’s young people getting thrilled by the music of my youth. It takes me back to when my friends and I heard this stuff for the first time way back in the 60s.
  • @1967PONTIACGTO
I've always loved the way Back in the USSR transitions into Dear Prudence
  • @peterzimmer9549
Dear Prudence was about Mia Farrow’s younger sister Prudence who accompanied them to India. Supposedly she went so deep into a meditative trance that they had trouble bringing her out of it.
  • @DarrenLoPrinzi
As a middle-aged white dude who grew up loving these Beatles albums and other classic rock albums, I want to tell you how much I appreciate your gut reactions as a person who has never heard this stuff before. I find that you are very insightul about what you're hearing - much moreso than I was when I first listened. Plus you make me laugh :-) I feel like I'm with an old friend getting to re-live hearing these songs for the first time. Thank you for that. Keep doing what you're doing.

With regard to Bungalo Bill, it was based off a real person they met while they were staying with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in India. They were on a meditation retreat and feeling very connected to the world and nature, and there was this British dude Bill who also happened to be staying there on a meditation retreat. Bill had brought his hunting equipment as he also wanted to combine his meditation trip with a hunting trip, and he ended up killing a tiger. He came back and tried to brag about it to the Yogi and the beatles but they ended up just very disappointed in him. They wrote that song about Bill, who years later after hearing the song about him, rethought his hunting and decided it was not right what he had done. There is a great documentary called Meeting the Beatles in India which I highly recommend for some context about the White Album, which they wrote during and right after their trip to India. The documentary is on one of the streaming services, I forget.

That's Clapton on lead guitar on While My Guitar Gently Weeps. George, sensing that having a guest sit in would put everyone on their best behavior, invited his fiend Eric to the session. It worked.
  • @RockinMamaT
It warms my heart to see your generation reacting to the classic rock of my day. I cant wait fo your reaction to Helter Skelter😂❤
