By the way, I found one of the Extreme Penetrator bullets totally intact and unblemished just this side of the burn barrel. I think it was from the bowling pin I shot at 16:45. It must have gone almost through the pin and then fell out on the ground when the pin hit the ground. I'll show it in a Sunday Morning Shoot-a-Round.

I won’t blow the whistle on your flat land transgression. Seriously, that’s a handsome gun
  • It's like holding a piece of history every time you fire. Thanks for showcasing this iconic revolver!
  • 255 grain moving at 1000fps is the sweet spot. All you'll ever need. Beautiful gun.

The .45 Colt round has a rich history and hitting targets with this revolver feels like a nod to the past while still packing a punch. Definitely a must-have for any gun enthusiast looking for that perfect balance of heritage and performance.

    It's a great day when there's a new Hickok45 firearms presentation!

I have always called it Long Colt. And always will. I have had the Colt M1917 for 40 years and the Smith and Wesson for 2.

About 25 years ago, I bought this precise N Frame (although the stocks are gorgeous wood). It has been unwillingly reliable, accurate, durable, very functional AND it always evokes considerable interest. The .45 Colt round is well over a century old, however, 250 grains moving at approximately 850 FPS remains very potent. In fact, during colder months I have concealed my M625 and have sometimes used it as a nightstand firearm. A six round capacity may seem to be inadequate, but for my likely threats it’s more than adequate.

the Dekalb County, Ga Sheriff's Dept issue in the 70's was a blued Model 25 in I think, 4" barrel. Beautiful gun.

Wow! Have packed one of these for years. Over 5,000 255gr reloads down the tube. Still strong. Thanks!

You always give good advice and your personal preference on gun handling. Always makes good sense.
  • Smith did make a .357 Magnum Mountain Gun in 1998. It was based on a 7-shot Model 686 and only about 2,000 were made.

Very cool gun ! I saw that auction too and considered it since I have so much .45 Colt ammo in storage... May have to get one one day, maybe even a new Model 25! Thanks for sharing & Enjoy your new S&W .45 Colt "Mountain Gun"! Added: I should have mentioned that I take my S&W governor on my hikes as the Scandium frame is super light and I load it with .45 Colt & .410. And the moon clips for the .45ACP give me the option to utilize all of .45ACP ammo that by quantity is my largest ammo hoard. The Governor is really is a very versatile offering!
