Hey! Want to take your art to the next LEVEL? I make videos sharing vital painting techniques.
I'm Andrew and welcome to my channel! I just love to paint and I've been a professional artist for nearly 20 years. Teaching is my passion; after a thriving career I've decided to give back and share what I have picked up on this journey. Here on YouTube I share techniques used by the old masters, across a wide range of subjects. We will also dive into the materials used in painting, and how to wield them with mastery! I will even feature content specifically designed to help you with your art career, with Q+A videos.
If that sounds like you, then you should SUBSCRIBE and join me on a fulfilling journey of creativity and discovery.

Andrew Tischler breaks down his process on how to paint portraits from start to finish, in a methodical step-by-step sequence. It all starts working from direct observation, carefully planning the piece with a colour sketch, and then finally working this into a larger studio painting. For additional tips, tricks and techniques that relate to how to paint portraits episode, make sure you are subscribed to the Great Art Adventure - Bonus Newsletter!

I am 81 and i am inspired to try to paint ( if only I could have been inspired earlier in my life} You are fantastic. congratulations. JIM
  • @-Gorbi-
Something about him saying he could see his dad coming through made me tear up. The depth of interconnection that good art brings out in us is cosmic
  • @gggoodgame__
"my sketch is finished" wow okay and here i am struggling to "sketch"
  • @RobinSealark
browsing through your channel and geeking out! Love your work!
  • @reemlsilkworm
5:22 "Finally my SKETCH?? is finished" Erm.. EDIT: After watching to the end, might I say what a stunning painting it really is. First class.
  • You just became my new teacher. I once heard from a life coach that when looking for a mentor or teacher, look for someone who has achieved the thing you want to achieve. You are the artist that I have wanted to be. I have spent nearly 19 years focused on parenting. Now is the time to go for my dreams! Thank you for the inspiration and the availability of instruction!
  • @magnakid
“One of the reasons you stay as an artist mate, is that you get these unknown highs that you can’t get any other way. You created it yourself!”. Def gonna remember this one
  • @rajasarkar4301
This is so inspiring. A shift in a few millimeters can cause a shift in the character - that's a real gem out there. You're great Andrew.
  • @Jonayofsweden
I was like "What are you talking about! That's perfect!" and as soon as you changed the eyes I was like "Yea that's much better..."
  • @jerryskidlsd
I just started painting a month or so ago. I'm 53. I'm in love with it and your channel is inspiration for me. I must say, I am impressed with your work and method of instruction. Thank you
  • @JebemTiZivot
Andrew loves painting hyper-realistic paintings that are better than 90% of other artists and then saying "And now were done with the block-in/ now we can move onto the actual piece, etc. Mans just a different breed.
  • @avrilretief732
Your work is beyond phenomenal. In fact, I just don't have the correct word to describe how good it is. I have only just discovered painting now and don't have that many years left of life to ever wish to get to your level :( looking forward to watching all your other videos. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent with us.......................
  • @JohnNoZ35
Thank you for showing the mistakes and corrections. Often it seems that professional artists never make mistakes, and it can be quite depressing, when the time comes to face my own errors. Seeing how you corrected the mistakes was exceptionally educational.
  • I caught myself smiling so big when Russel said he loves it & he sees his Dad. You did a super awesome job, Andrew. Such a beautiful painting. You’re amazing. ❤️🙌🏽😁
  • @BengtRosini13
I very much appreciated the showing of your realization of the necessary adjustments and then making them, so as to show that everyone makes mistakes, it's how you deal with them that determines ones own success or failure.
  • @pablob2005
As a portrait painter I cant thank you wnough for the correcting features tips... a problem to us all. Thanks!
  • @capbin146
Andrew telling us 100 hours of studio time is great it really helps an amateur like me understand why I might have an ok painting after2-3 hours. Lots of artists forget that and that it took 3 weeks. Thank you!
  • Wow! You are incredibly talented! I thought your first painting was amazing. Love seeing you together and feel so privileged to have seen two wonderful artists spending quality time together.Your final work is breathtaking! God bless you both for allowing us into your world!
