To me the definition of art is when you first glance at a piece and your mind instantly tells you that it is something. But upon closer examination you realize the illusion and your mind starts to dissect what it is that you are looking at. You then find yourself staring for minutes or hours teetering between the two. That said your work in this piece perfectly creates that paradox that keeps the eye and mind wondering. On one hand your mind instantly comprehends the subject in the portrait with perfect photo clarity but in the same instant begins to pull apart each brush stroke. To me that is true art. I love it and aspire for my own work to reach this level someday!

I'm in my second year of painting. Value is the hardest piece that I've been learning. I still struggle to trust what I'm seeing, but am learning. This was a great short demo, very helpful. I am learning now from a true master, and you are one of a very few painters on line that he recommends watching. I'm sure you have talent, but I know it is more about putting in the thousands of hours to develop your skill, that gives me something to shoot for! Bravo!
