Many child actors achieve fame early in life, only to later choose careers far removed from the entertainment industry. Danny Bonaduce, Jeff Cohen, and Peter Ostrum are three notable examples of this trend.

Jay North found almost overnight fame his role as Dennis Mitchell in "Dennis the Menace," – a popular TV series that aired from 1959 to 1963. Despite his early success, North struggled with the pressures of fame and the challenging dynamics behind the scenes. As he grew older, he found it difficult to secure roles that were not typecast. Eventually, North left acting and pursued a career as a corrections officer. He found stability and purpose in this new role, serving at the Florida Department of Corrections for several years.

Jeff Cohen, known for his role as Chunk in the 1985 film "The Goonies," took a different route after his acting career. Following his time as a child actor, Cohen decided to pursue higher education. He attended the University of California, Berkeley, and later earned a law degree from UCLA School of Law. Today, Cohen is a successful entertainment lawyer and co-founder of Cohen & Gardner, LLP, a firm based in Beverly Hills. His unique understanding of the entertainment industry has made him a respected figure in legal circles.

Peter Ostrum, who played Charlie Bucket in the 1971 film "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory," had perhaps the most surprising post-acting career. Even though the film was a major success, Ostrum decided not to pursue an acting career afterward. Instead, he pursued a career in veterinary medicine. He earned a degree in veterinary science and became a veterinarian specializing in dairy cattle. Ostrum has spoken positively about his decision to leave Hollywood, finding fulfillment in his work as a veterinarian.

These three individuals illustrate how child actors can successfully transition into different fields, finding new passions and careers outside of the spotlight.

Jay North is not the first child actor who hates his childhood role on a T.V. comedy and he won't be the last. A lot of these child actors from the 60s and 70s don't want to go through life being typecasted.
  • It's inspiring to see people like Jeff Cohen and Peter Ostrum find joy in new careers after their time in the spotlight.
  • I was surprised that Jay North disliked his show so much. I’m guessing that the pressures put on him were too much for him. Not everyone is made for that. Hopefully he found his happiness. 👍
  • In the thumbnail you show Kristy Mc nichol but nothing about her here
  • The only kid actor I know who worked after being a kid actor was Ron Howard . He wax a kid he played Opisthotonos 😢😮😮 in the Andy Griffef Show. Then we g on to play another big roleax Richie in Happy Days for years. He then became a da our Ditretor. In many movies" hesgsyed in actingsince hewas a kid up until newas a man , then ditrcting. a lot of hit movies. You can make acting work if you get good Toledo
  • The title says he, but the thumbnail is a woman, so shouldn’t it say she
  • Good for them! They found their very own path & happiness! Love this🫶🫶🫶
  • When you think about it. There really is no shock factor in child stars either outgrowing Hollywood or like most, just absolute imploded against it. The %s are extremely telling. There are far, far less child stars who go from Opie to Richie Cunningham to Mega Hits director and producer worth a few billion. Susan Day from The Partridge Family is another one of the few who survived and became a more recognized star for her adult role in L.A. Law which she won and was dominated for many awards including a Golden Globe than as Laurie Partridge. Stop and think about it and I bet you can't name 5 others with these resumes. And it not limited to just TV. Look at the likes of Judy Garland and the unmatched Shirley Temple who from age 3 to about 17 was earning upwards of $50,000 per film role.(About a million and half in today's money) even with all her succes walked away from Hollywood at 22yrs old to pursue politics. Eventually becoming the Ambassador to The UN. Then Ghana and The Czech Republic (then Czechoslovakia).
  • Willy Wonka was not really made for kids? It shows kids going away . Some of them looks like they became un alived.? The end of the movie when they go down the acid river? It was nice that he chose Charlie as his replacement. .
  • Nina going see one day. One Day going love Me. Regardless my dumb shit. You see True Man I I’m today. Going see and realize how Much I Love You
