"No Woman, No Cry" is a reggae song by Bob Marley and the Wailers. The song was recorded in 1974 and released on the studio album Natty Dread. Although Bob Marley is widely believed to have written the song (the lyrics are highly personalized and mention Georgie making cornmeal porridge, Marley's favorite dish), or at least the melody, a songwriter credit was given to Vincent Ford, a friend of Marley's who ran a soup kitchen in Trenchtown, the ghetto of Kingston, Jamaica, where Marley grew up. The royalty payments received by Ford ensured his efforts would continue ~ From Wikipedia

My amazing mother sent me this video today, with this message: I've found a beautiful musical performance today. I am so in love with it that I want it played at my 80th birthday this year, and at my wake, or funeral, or memorial, whatever, or I'll return and haunt "youse fullas". Like a fine West Indian rum that I drank in my youth, this music has invigorated me. It's sent with my love and best wishes for your happiness in 2023. May you have laughter and family closeness this year. For those of us Caribbean souls, who can remember the 40 gallon steel drums in the 1950s, emptied of their petroleum, heated in their cavity so that musical notes could be hammered out to 'tune de pan', and then were played with fists and were called 'cuff bass ' or were played with rubber balls attached to chop sticks and were called "alto pans"; please now marvel at the expert tuning of steel pans in 2022, seventy years later. These notes are 'true', soprano pans even exist, melodies can span 2-3 octaves and the percussive instruments to play the pans are new to me. I don't even know what they are. Please enjoy my new-found love.
