There’s no love like a dog's love. No matter how badly we behave or how much we don’t deserve it, our dogs idolize us and show us selfless devotion on a level that humans aren’t capable of, so it seems unfair that their lives are so short. Although there is nothing we can do to change the ratio of dog to human years, we can change our focus from living long to living large, from quantity of life to quality of life, by doing everything we can to make sure our dogs are as healthy as they can possibly be. But some dogs are naturally healthier than others, including the following picks for our top 10 healthiest small dog breeds.

Dogs are AWESOME! We don't deserve them, but I sure am glad that we have them.
  • I had my sweet little Shih tzu Gracie girl she lived over 16 years best fur baby ever. At 10 years old she was diagnosed with conjested heart failure and an enlarged heart. The vet put on heart medication, almost killed her. I took her off medication and put on a High omega 3 diet she lived a good healthy life another 6 1/2 years. With no medication !!!

How could a Jack Russell Terrier not be on here. My JRT "Zap" is 16 years old and hes a active as ever. They should definitely be on the list

My JRT turned 17 two days ago. She hasn’t slowed down ANY, we hike anywhere between 3 to 5 miles daily. They should be on this list.
  • My mini Schnauzer is the best. I've always loved them & finally got my own 7 years ago. One thing you didn't mention about the mini Schnauzer is that they're prone to pancreatitis. Generally no life threatening, but keeping them on a low fat diet is a definite must.

My shih tzu is pretty hardy. He met up with a porcupine when he took off into the forest and didn't even complain about the few quills in his face. I don't even know about it until I went to give him a wash when he came back muddy. He did not, however, approve of me trying to get the quills out with pliers, so that required an expensive vet visit. He loves boating, kayaking, ATVing, car-car rides, and riding on my tractor. He even has his own cat.
  • My chi was 23 years old when she passed away. Never needed a vet 😀😀😀
  • We had a chihuahua who lived to be 20 years old! I have a Jack Russel mix breed as well, who will be turning 15 this month and a young doberman who will be three this summer 🤗 💕

My Shih Tzu Shelly is now 8 years old she been through many problems but shes a survivor from Parvo when she was a puppy and a skin problem that she to put on an elizabeth collar coz her skin is bleeding and leaving her skin wounded and super irritated for 5months but shes a big fighter she gained her skin back healthy again i gave her colloidial silver 2x a day i put vit c 200mg on her water and in Diet dog suppliment for skin and hair support and tons of love and care no matter how irritated she was i still let her feel im there for her all the way ❤❤❤❤
  • I am very surprised that the West Highland White Terrier was not included. They are independent yet devoted dogs. They have their share of possible predisposed conditions, but they are hypoallergenic and live 12-17 years or more. I think they are great little digs. 💖

I would like to start our by saying Thank you so very much for your videos. Im a loyal viewer of your videos. I have not found any of your videos to be inaccurate or as I would say full of bull. Im very thankful for that. I do however have a hard time finding videos where people are explaining the reasons hind why they say some breeds are the healthiest..... along with that I cant find any videos of the healthiest large breed dogs. I know that typically small breeds in general live longer and are healthier than large breeds, however Im personally in need of larger breeds for my service dog needs, and obviously need the healthiest i can find. if you could please make a video fitting that description i would be very grateful. Thank you again
