On Tuesday, the City of Denver said it started a sweep of a homeless encampment in the La Alma Lincoln Park area due to public health risks.

The sweep is happening in the area of West Eighth Avenue and Mariposa Street to Sixth Avenue and Lipan Street. The city said the sweep should take about three days.

It's the first time in six months that the administration has posted an encampment closure without providing resolution on housing for the people there, the city said in a statement.

  • I'm all for helping the homeless, but it's incredibly difficult helping folks who don't want to help themselves.
  • I wonder if the 132 that returned to homeless did so because they refuse help or that's just how bad the success rate is
  • Federal minimum wage is $7.25. Twenty or so states don't have a minimum wage. They follow the Feds wage rate. So, to say a person is "worth" any given amount of payment, I believe, is misleading and demeans the value of human labor. I have heard it said that a large percentage of Americans are 2-3 paychecks away from the street. Affordable housing is a national (and. perhaps international) problem.

Physically able to push a cart around, physically able to get a job and pay rent.

They’re all coming to Aurora at I-225 and Parker rd. Under the bridge right next to the dam rd trail
  • Minimum wage in Colorado is about $14.50 per hour. In a 40 hr week a worker will gross about $600. The average rent in Denver is about $1,900 . To those coldhearted, "pick yourself up by your bootstraps" types who criticize people with no shoes , I say, "Grow an ounce of compassion for your fellow man."
  • I would venture a guess that Denver has abandoned government- owned facilities which could be transformed to house homeless residents. Why does the city exacerbate the problem for the homeless population by forcing them to search for new shelter? That's not a "plan", that's cruelty.

Understand that they don’t want to work, they want to be given everything for free.

Whats sad is your goverment pretends to care but if they did this issue wouldve been solved a long time ago. But guess what... Its worse.

I would ask anyone who is commenting here to take 20mins. Out of their lives & watch criminalizing homelessness Leeja Miller it's an extremely informative quick history lesson

Give them jobs. Which translates into housing for alot of them. The mayor should endure what he is doing to these people who can't help themselves.
  • @dmoney5003
Well, they wouldn't be homeless if we gave them places to live. When did the homeless come to be so entitled. Including immigrants.

At least during The Great Depression they didn’t “sweep” Hoovervilles. Poor unhoused people banned together to build their own shelters and work together to keep each other safe if the government wouldn’t. Unfortunately, in the 21st century, things are worse. Disruptive and groups divided. Thanks for clearing away people’s homes since you won’t ensure they have other shelters. Truly a great solution.
  • @ngakemometong
Maybe allow them to live in some billionaire abandoned mansion?
  • Majority of them, not all, would rather be on the streets. Plenty of jobs hiring that's suffering shortages. There's still resources the government offers. Not our fault that the select few choose drugs and the street just because they don't want to obey homeless shelter rules.

The ones who pretend to be normal, don’t they have friends or families to take them in temporary to get back on their feet?
