I had to put a stop to my son bringing turtles home because he built a turtle pen out back which was fine but when he told me he had over 30 turtles in there I was shocked. He built a pen out of an old trampoline frame and chicken wire and he had a hell of a collection going. He had all kinds of land turtles. Orange spots, yellow spotted ones and plain brown turtles. He basically had all the turtles Kansas has to offer. He had all the turtles tamed to the point he could hand feed them worms and when he would open the gate the turtles would follow him around the yard. There would be a litteral heard of turtles chasing him around. Eventually I talked him into releasing them all back to the woods where he found them but it was hard. Now he goes back into the woods and I kid you not he just has to stand there and a turtle with come crawling up.
  • 15 min is a short video lol I think if it’s content people are interested in the longer the better. I personally can’t get enough turtle and tortoise content. I’ve been following kampkenan for 6 years and I often go back to the beginning of his channel and binge. Your channel is one I’m binging right now. Great stuff

Great video on explaining your feeding set-up. I'm in Texas and have multiple Ornate's and agree 100% that they should be kept outside. Hibernation and all. I was interested in your enclosure walls - they are not electrified and seem to have to "deterrent" for predators. Where I am, my enclosure is under constant watch by skunks and armadillo's. They don't want to eat the adults, but dig up my nests. For the longest time I thought it was a racoon, but after installing night vision video camera's, low and behold, it was skunks and even armadillo's. I could not figure out how they were getting in and after moving the camera's around and painstakingly watching them (8 hours of nightime video watching is boring....), I finally figured it out and stopped it - but the damage was done. I used to keep the babies in the main enclosure but exactly like you said, they were getting picked off by hawks. Again, the vidoe camera revealed all. So, back my question - no deterants? Also, do you now attract vermin like rats etc bu leaving ANY food out at night? I used to and after watching rats and opposums eat the food, I stopped doing that.

Probably the best and most common sense video I’ve seen on box turtles. Right up there w Garden State. Thanks for new tips. Would love for you to make a video on building your habitats.
  • Beautiful homes for your turtles. I will have to try your recipes for my Easterns and three toes😊
