You can't forget humor, humor is needed to enjoy teaching and for students to enjoy being taught. Nearly all of the teachers I have had (most of which had taught for 10+ years) have said this and I entirely agree

This is very insightful, considering that I'm finishing my physics and chemistry studies and will soon become a teacher. I could easily be strict, but I don't want students to fear me, it makes them hate a subject that they might actually love

For anyone watching this and wanting to know the most important thing about being an EFFECTIVE instructor. It mainly comes down to distractions. The more distractions you can "cut out" (as an instructor) the more effective you will be. The most important distraction to "cut out" is the use of filler/crutch words (and, um, etc) or phrases (you know). If you can "cut out" this one major distraction, then you are on your way to becoming a great instructor. This lady seems to be a very good instructor/teacher, but the use of ands and ums was very distracting. If you noticed her using them, then that was a distraction. A distracted mind is a mind that isn't fully learning what is being taught.
  • these are all important qualities of a great teacher. Passion is the most required quality in teaching as well as in anything else we do in life. That quality will make way for the others to appear.

Awesome! Now I'm off because of the autumn break, I have got time to relax and reflect a bit on my teaching. I see that I definitely do this in the classes in which the students are extremely motivated, but in classes where the learners aren't paying intrinsically motivated, I tend to neglect these criteria. Good stuff!

I'm a first year on a primary education degree and have started placement so this has definitely come in useful! Thanks :)
  • I love teaching. I like to go out and bring back new information to my students.

Nice. I've been teaching for four years, but it's always good to refresh myself as to why I love teaching. Thank you.

I don’t think it’s hard for a teacher to be good. You have outlined some really good ideas, mine are: 1. Be professional, stop bullying, reply to emails with kind, help students, don’t waste time in class. 2. Look at the test 3. Teach the content on the test without giving the answers 4. Have frequent assessments (but not to frequent where they are studying constantly) but frequent enough where students will not have a bad grade for not doing too well in one or two assessments 5. Don’t set unnecessary tasks that are not helpful 6. Don’t give students homework the day before a test (they already have test revision, why start a new topic?)

This is what a good teacher's skills: 1)Patient 2)Love the matter that he teaches and be well informed on it! 3)A sense of humor. 4)Friendly. 5)Not Hot-Tempered. 6)Know how to make his students love the matter that he's teaching even if they didn't like it before. 7)NO HOMEWORK!!!!

Well, your points are quite useful to get a petter position before the students in the classroom, I'll note them down!

I have always been thinking that making mistake is not obvious, but rather it's wrong. I guess this is the result of the educational systen of my country, Korea. Students in Korea (including me) often become afraid of answering, cuz we are anxious about our mistakes which may be nonexistent. Our parants, teachers, and many other adult have always taught us that making mistakes is a shame. But by watching this video, now I am able to say to them that that idea is basically wrong. Thank you for the nice tips. I hope I can be a great teacher like you.
