Dr. Jordan B. Peterson sits down with author and journalist Matt Taibbi. They discuss his early career both in journalism and professional basketball, his time in the U.S.S.R. learning Russian and publishing a successful gonzo-inspired newspaper, and his breaking coverage of the subprime mortgage bubble. They also examine the state of the world today with Russia and the U.S. military industrial complex, the upcoming presidential election, and the dire necessity for alternative news sources.

Matt Taibbi is an award-winning investigative reporter and one of America’s more recognizable literary voices. In 2002, Taibbi began work as a contributing editor for Rolling Stone. There he won the National Magazine Award for commentary. He is best known for his coverage of four presidential campaigns, of the 2008 financial crisis, and the criminal justice system. He has written ten books, including four New York Times bestsellers: The Great Derangement, Griftopia, The Divide, and Insane Clown President. His book, I Can’t Breathe, about the police killing of Eric Garner, was named one of the year’s ten best books by the Washington Post. His latest book about media division, Hate Inc., has been hailed by everyone from Joe Rogan to Publishers Weekly, and called “The best explanation of media behavior since Manufacturing Consent” by Glenn Greenwald.

My father, a conservative midwestern farmer, would make copies of Matt’s RS articles on the banking debacle and toss them in my pickup truck for me to read. I became a believer in his reporting. Nice to listen to this conversation between two of my most respected people.
  • @alichebry
They just don’t make ‘‘em like Matt anymore, a journalist with integrity and charm. Thanks Jordan for another stellar interview 🙏
  • Listening to Peterson describe the 2008 financial crisis in a few minutes was more informative than the 13 years I spent in American public schools.
  • @Nettamorphosis
I’m only 5 minutes in and this guy has lived a hell of a life. Pro baseball, Pro Basketball, and Pro Writer. 🤯
  • @jakelee8538
Matt sounds like a 'surfer dude' ... and then you listen to what he's saying. Absolutely brilliant. He's probably the most significant, honest and important journalist we have right now. Fantastic conversation. Thank you, Jordan ❤
  • @JaydeJackson
I've always respected Matt's journalism but didn't realise that he lived such an interesting life. I'm well impressed.
  • @scottgibbs5903
This is one of your best interviews. This is the exact kind of conversations we need in this country. I’m going to do a deep dive into reading Matt Taibbi.
  • @user-bx3yi3pm2e
Matt doesn’t come across as tough as nails but he definitely is. He’s seems to me to be a controlled monster as JP might say. Absolutely a great human being.
  • @yargum69
Thank you Dr. Peterson for having Matt Taibbi on! He is one of the most important journalists of our generation for his commitment to journalistic objectivity in this extremely politicized time
  • @damianketcham
“You know a State is corrupt when you can no longer bribe it”…..that’s gold.
  • @danatowne5498
Matt has a devastating intellect with a huge helping of common sense and heart that I have enjoyed throughout his writing career. Pointing out that using "stop and frisk" on Wall Street might have a closer arrest ratio than many people think was a GREAT way to challenge assumptions - same way his writing often does.

As an American, I lived and worked In Moscow from 98 to 2001 building the American Embassy, I loved the Exile paper, I wish that I would of kept them! Interview brought back some great memories.
  • @curtisvalle5141
Wish I had dollar for each time the Professor makes a statement and his guest responds with "That's exactly right.' Aways a fan of his professional psych. insights but his ability to discuss deeply a vast range of difficult topics is awesome. Most importantly he is taking on the most vexxing problems of our time..... at tremendous cost. God's Speed, Doctor on your Hero's journey.
  • @tom19482001
This is the most interesting conversation that I have heard in a very long time. Thank you both for taking the time to have this wide ranging discussion. Please do this again in the near future.
  • @TheJackSP
Matt is brilliant, maybe most important journalist of our time. Wonderful interview!
  • @gmk2222
I love channels that use time stamps. Respectful use of people’s attention. Thank you.
  • @guy7018
Listening to this interview reminds me why I no longer trust any of our status quo institutions. I was always skeptical, but in recent years my skepticism has been confirmed constantly. Most fellow citizens are too busy to be aware of what is "really" happening. Kudos to Matt and Jordon on standing up to "Big Lie" being propagated by the elites and their useful idiots in the system.
  • @kaloncar
Thank you once again Dr. Peterson for another brilliant interview. I learned a lot. Matt is a highly unique and interesting person who seems genuinely interested in getting to the bottom of things in the news.
  • @rpjswish
Wonderful conversation, and good to get to know Matt more in depth. Jordan, you are not only very learned and articulate, you conduct interesting interviews. Thank you both for a less political prospective on events that have affected us all.
