  • My cousin moved to Costa Rica in retirement. She sent me a cell phone photo of an odd short-legged cat that was in her yard. I was thrilled to tell her it was a jaguarundi. She'd never heard of it.

They look like the love child of a cat, otter and a jaguar 😂

I'm 35 years old man I've been watching national geographic since i was 12, it's amazing that there are still animals on this planet i never heard of😮

I remember trying to do a report on this animal back in third grade in the early 90's, there was almost no information about them either in books or film, and none of the adults I talked to had heard of them. I came to the point I wasn't certain they were even a real animal.

I used to use this cat as part of a dichotomous key activity for my classroom of middle-schoolers. They always laughed thinking I said "jaguar undies".

I live in south TX. I worked on a small ranch near Choke Canyon St. Park. I and all of my co-workers, as well as the boss man saw these cute critters fairly regularly. We tried to report our sightings but were told in no uncertain terms that jaguarundis no longer lived in this area. They had done a three year study and came up bupkis. And of course you know, those folks are never wrong.

surprised you mentioned Tayras or Tolomucos. These animals are extremely under covered by media. they’re like a jungle wolverine!

Your videos are a treat for someone like me who live in India and will never get to see such animals in real. Thank you Animalogic.

I remember when I was around 12yo a classmate told us his dad killed a wild cat on the Mountains and invited us to take a look at it on his garage. We went, and it was an Ocelot. Him and his dad were proud of the "catch" and I remember saying "Was he attacking you? Or was it so violent that you feel proud of surviving the fight? Otherwise I'm sure it tried to run away". They looked at me with a bothered look as if I was the "bad one" there. Then my friend's mom came into the garage and scolded them "Finally a boy who isn't an idiot like you two. Poor cat is smaller than our dog and you display it as if you just killed a murderous lion".
  • Jaguarundi is such a cool name for a cool cat Costa Rica wildlife is always surprising!!! PURA VIDA!!!

In the late 1970s I worked for a company that had printing done at a near by print shop. That print shop had a cat - the men that ran it said it was traditional for print shops to have cats and they had found this kitten around Padre Island. This was one of the oddest looking cats I had ever seen. He was a darkish orange tabby with slightly shorter legs than normal and a much longer than normal body. This cat also pretty much hated everyone. In fact, they told me after I had pet him one day, that I was the first customer they knew about who ever touched him and few ever saw him. In fact, they had seldom been allowed to touch him either. I suspect that this cat might've been a hybrid of a Jaguarundi and a domestic cat. Thankfully they had fixed him and there were no other kittens they knew of.

Thank you for covering these guys! I'd heard of them but didn't really know anything about them. Staying with obscure South American carnivorans, how about doing Bush Dogs?
  • @WyvernKing1998
2:01 I thought I'd heard of every mammal known to man, but you've proved me wrong. Love this channel!

when I moved to mexico i found out about Jaguarundis they live in my state of Guanajuato and they are endangered and also protected. Once i had a chance to see one in their natural habitat I immediately fell in love with them especially after being suprissed that those small cats actually roar!

Never heard of this. Blows my mind that, at 60, there are still amazing animals I've never heard of. Thank you!
