As a former metal worker.... This was actually horrifying to watch. Watching a baby seal getting clubbed is probably less horrifying.

Using a worn 3 jaw chuck is a recipe for certain run-out. Nor did he use a DTI to test for axial alignment. Misalignment would cause an increase in torsional vibration and risk crankshaft failure. The flywheel would also need re-balancing.

In many parts of the world people don't seem to have the resources to use a new replacement part. In countries without mandatory technical inspection and testing of vehicles, such repair methods are probably a cost-effective repair option. This is also possible in many states in the USA, for example. Western standards are comparatively high, but also very expensive. It is helpful for traffic safety. In Germany there is no general speed limit on the motorways. At 160km/h and more, a vehicle must be in perfect condition otherwise it can quickly become dangerous.

Ok Apu, here's the flywheel, you see it broke off for some reason. Yeah, material quality was not a problem... Like I said - no reason. And don't mind the huge crack across it, just fix the center.

  • @tdclymore
I'm still waiting on the "shocking" part. LOL
  • @MrHitchikerOz
He'll be repairing a broken crankshaft next week. Just because something can be done, it's not always the case that it should be.
  • @Qusin111
The only thumbs up this video should get is the people that did it in the video.

MY GOD, so manny reasons to say NO. Back yard machineing at it's worst.
  • @thepvporg
I can see that all that work is for nothing as there is another crack in the flywheel plate that can be seen clearly.
  • @YSLee-xg8eh
The flywheel is a non-breakable part, but the broken part is special, and it seems more economical to replace it with a new part than to repair it by welding.
