Thank you. I'm one of the inmates that helped save Deputy Hobbs. I finally got released a month ago. I'm glad to be free and honored to be labeled as a HERO. I'm doing very well. I could spend 30min telling you everything positive I've accomplished since my release and less than 30 seconds telling you the negative. So. I'm doing AWESOME and hope Deputy Hobbs is still doing good. Thank you, Terry Loveless

And this is how people are rehabilitated. Treat them like humans.
  • For those keeping track, he had a heart attack and was out recovering for several weeks and when he came back, all the prisoners clapped.
  • The fact that these 3 prison inmates are kinder than most people I know, is just sad. (No disrespect to the inmates, these guys are true heros.)
  • @PepMotorsport
There is probably a good reason why the inmates are willing to help him. This officer has obviously been good to the inmates.

The deputy reaped what he sowed. He treated the inmates like human beings and they acted from their humanity.

I was a correctional officer in a maximum security prison. What I know is if you treat the inmates with respect they will return that respect. Treat all people as human beings that is the lesson.
  • @KestrelDC
The fact that he opened their doors shows a lot of trust and understanding
  • They ain’t bad folk, they just made bad choices. They still good folk.
  • The officer showed kindness to the inmates and therefore they showed kindness in return. It’s truly amazing how far a little bit of kindness can go in this world.

I was a correctional officer and the guys are just like everyone. They will help someone in need.

“Not all those behind bars are evil; not all those who walk free are kind”

Whatever these men did, they didn't lose their humanity. Hats off to them.

Respect between staff and inmates is an important point! I wish there was more of this in our prison systems.

It’s just so abnormal seeing positive news these days; and yet everyone’s a winner in this story
  • I worked as a nurse in a jail for almost 5 yrs. I'm not surprised at the reaction of the inmates. If you treat them as you want to be treated, and show them respect, they will do the same in return. Great show of respect.
  • @rxttxn
the fact that the officer trusted them and opened their door, and they didn't even hesitate on helping him really shows how you receive what you give
  • An officer who's respectful to prisoners truly gives a second chance to people who've committed crime.

I worked in corrections in Montana. Officers were so bad up there I felt the inmates in my unit would probably come to my aid before the other losers I worked with. I always treated inmates with the same level of respect they gave me.

It shows how much it pays to be empathic.
