Rory McIlroy dominated the 2014 Open at Royal Liverpool and deservedly became Champion Golfer of the Year for the first time.

Only an exciting final-day charge from Sergio Garcia (66), with an eagle at the 10th before leaving his ball in a bunker at the 15th, and Rickie Fowler finishing fast for a 67 cut McIlroy’s winning margin to two strokes.

Though his overnight six-stroke lead dwindled alarmingly early in the round, he held firm with a steady 71 good enough for a 17-under-par total of 271.

McIlroy became the third Northern Irish winner after Fred Daly, also at Hoylake in 1947, and Darren Clarke (2011).

  • Would have enjoyed it far more if they'd shown the scores on screen

For a lot of people it was Tiger who made them fall in love with golf. For me, it was Rory. I hope the glory days come back
  • @ErikKullgren
I have dreamed of you uploading this! I will truly cherish this moment and relive Rory at his best! Absolutely love the full final round videos.
  • One of my favorite tournaments I can remember watching. Given how well they both played that week, it's interesting to see how Rickie's and Rory's swings have both changed since this tournament. Thanks a lot for posting this; I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Listening to the dulcet tones of the great man Peter Alliss…..love it! 😀🏌️‍♂️
  • I had the pleasure of following 43 year old Robert Karlsson at the 2012 Pga Tour second stage of Q-school. His ball striking (he was hitting these 3 wood stingers off the tee) and driving ability was world class. Glad to see him here near the lead at the 2014 Open. He's playing well on the Champions Tour this year.

God dang it is there not even a scoreboard incidentally in view of any camera angle? The broadcasters refuse to even mention a player’s score to par! I have no idea what anyone’s scores are relative to Rory’s -17 (?) and I’m 5 holes in
  • came back re-watch it after Rory's lost to the Camerons today. Sweet memory, hope to see he will breakthrough next year.
  • @chandratan5926
Why not show scores and others on the TV screen as usual.
  • @Meegwun
The problem with these broadcasts is it's like the scores are a secret. Pfft.
  • @Bobba8590
I remember watching this, and saw him picking up the driver. Then he just fucking pipes it. The tournament was over there and there.
  • If i could win any major def would be the open and I’m American. Just classy!
