After Tuesday night's magnitude 5.2 temblor at the Southern end of the Central Valley, experts say it may have originated from an unknown fault close to the White Wolf fault, which produced a magnitude 7.5 quake in 1952. Rick Chambers reports on Aug. 7, 2024.

  • I kept telling California it's YOUR fault, but they keep locking me up in the psych ward

I live in Porterville about 50 miles north of Bakersfield and we have been feeling a number of quakes from yesterday, 8/6/24 and today 8/7/24. I am taking care of my 94 year old mother-in-law after the death of my wife during COVID and we live in a mobile home so every time we have a quake in the area we feel the movement in the mobile home. One of the quakes a few years ago I was outside loading up our car for a trip and I literally saw the ground ripple like a wave. The next evening we were in Costco in Bakersfield and the whole store started to shake and the lights and ceiling fans were moving back and forth included was the rattling of the metal shelves. These quakes are keeping us on edge not knowing what this maybe leading to. When we bought the mobile home in around 1990 it didn't have earthquake straps. I am now seriously thinking I need to get some earthquake tie downs for the mobile home.
  • Oh no! The ground shook. Better than dealing with hurricanes and tornadoes every year.
