In the winter of 1980/81, Alan Rouse led a British expedition to attempt Mount Everest by the west ridge, without using oxygen or Sherpas. Joe Tasker and Ade Burgess reached a high point of the ridge at around 24,000ft. The expedition members were overwhelmed by the fierce winds and cold conditions as well as numerous health troubles.

Great footage. Joe Tasker is one of my favourite mountaineers and it's fantastic to see him. Thanks for putting this up.

Wonderful to see this. Thanks for posting this and others
  • These guys rock. Looks like they're going up a way other summiteers would not dare. True mountaineers.

Those tan mittens look like something I wore as a child in the 60's playing in the snow, I would think youd want gloves for dexterity.

They're all dead, lost on subsequent expeditions, such a waste of young life, none of them saw 40
