I live in South Florida. During one particular hurricane, I learned the hard way that one of the most important things you can have is mosquito repellent! It's too hot to stay inside when electricity is out, and mosquitoes run rampant! Also, have some cash with you, broken up into small bills. Right after a hurricane, before electricity gets restored, many stores without electricity will still sell what's left on their shelves, but can't take debit cards or make change with bigger bills. Baby wipes also help. Then of course, there are the most obvious things you'll need, but get that stuff before hurricane season because supplies run out quick once a hurricane is on the horizon! I love your idea of using the runaway for a cool place to sleep!

I am letting a friend of mine that lives in Florida know about this so she can check it out herself. Her husband says that they are about an hour away. Sorry, from Iowa myself.

I am interested in sharing information and learning. I'm near SpringHill, not sure where Davenport is but I will look. Maybe you could do a You Tube video with a title about your emergency group, I would never have gone to meetup.com I saw the info here. I am like you and wouldn't know how to kick people out, I don't like conflict. I have MS so it is scary when our power goes out because the heat bothers me a lot. We've talked about getting a generator but haven't. It would be good to learn from others like what kind of generator, you know general knowledge things. I think I'm a normal person although my family might say otherwise. : )
