  • The land we own and live on my great grandparents homesteaded in 1911 and all the land around us is owned by different family members.
  • @janetbreckon8211
You cover so many things most people wouldn't have a clue about. You should hire yourself out.😊 Awesome.

"I am glad for the encouragement." I finally bought a homestead off a 150-acre farm. I knew I really can't afford more then about 10 to 15 acres so I put an offer in on just what I could afford. The neighbors that have a family farm went and put in an offer on the rest of the farm land to add to there farm. The owners took our offer. In some ways I feel like it sure would have bin nice having all 150 instead of just 15 acres. But It is paid for! I thank the Lord for a cute little homestead to raise my kids on and enough land to have about any animals my kids want, in small numbers 😄 God bless you and your beautiful family!

Good advice. We have 6.5 years left on our mortgage. I will be 74 years old. We have 17.5 acres. Most of the 7 that the house is on is pasture land for our 2 Quarter Horses. The rest is pines and hard woods. We hunt our own land and we have good neighbors. We have been here for 30 years.

A guy bought a nice new house on a hill in the winter. When the snow melted he saw it overlooked a garbage dump.

This is the most important video you’ve made. Another thing I’d add is think about getting your water and soil tested if you have a well and are planning on raising livestock. I know someone that bought 200 acres contaminated with black leg disease. Just something to consider…
  • @wolfwalker-ud5up
A friend of mine bought 2.5 acres and didn’t have it done but I asked him if he had it done and I just found out that he owned land that his neighbor built a shed half way through the line.
  • @kathyshaw2870
We have 5 acers. Paid for and have lived here for over 30 years ago. Has a grandfather clause on it...each 1 acer can be subdivided into 5 properties, 1 acer each. Which is good since we have grown kids now. What is perfect for one person, may be a nightmare for another. TY great information. GOD BLESS YA'LL ALWAYS!
  • @tott3457
Colby, one more thing!!! Be sure you can get the mineral rights!!! We have irrigated pasture that is provided by A water user district that comes from a reservoir Damn. So if we don’t own the mineral rights we could lose the function of our property. Which we use to graze and raise beef cattle If you don’t own the mineral rights. They could use your property for …….. I might add we are in central N California 🤪
  • Certainly very good advice for those lacking experience. There are many traps for the unwary. Realtors and sellers of their property have incentive to promote the good and hide the bad. You certainly do NOT want to buy troubles. 😮😳😫😫😭😭
  • @billparks7368
Went through that in Florida. Found an older place on an acre, a mile of the pavement. Needed some work, but you could do anything you wanted. Asked the homeowner how wet it got out there. He said after a heavy rain, it's soft but dries up in a day or so. A month later, it rained every day for a week. 4 to 6 inches covered the property. I had to buy concrete blocks so we could walk from the truck to the house. 5 years later, we sold the place and broke even with what we put in as improvements. Turns out our property was the lowest in that mile radius. 🤦🤷😵
  • @mimims8836
Great advice! We just recently purchased our retirement property. So far, very happy with our purchase. Working to make it “ours” now and slowly moving into the home. Plenty of garden space for me and plan to add chickens for eggs. So excited! Love both your channels!
  • Also, it is a great idea, to becoe friends with your neighbors. Nice to have a close network to help each other. MOST IMPORTANT.... let them know, you want first dibs if they ever want to sell.
  • @sharoncrump6324
We only bought 4 acres, but we expect to live there when we retire so we planned accordingly and went with what we could handle.
  • @debih1321
we used the same concepts you said when recently buying a house for my mother. we looked at so many homes I can't count them and got all the details on the ones she liked.. finally found the perfect location and home! She is so very happy!

May the lord bless and protect you and your family and the animals
  • @DeeDee-rh8jl
Colby, been watching for a few years this is one of the best videos you’ve made! Love it! One of my other favorites was the pantry tour and anything with canning and gardening! Thank you!
  • @jaysbaby2012
Awesome advice...... Also: If you buy a house, make sure you hire a good building inspector, because if you do not, you could end up with a house that will cost you 10 times more than it is worth. Thank you The Macs. Have a blessed day all.
  • The biggest take away is don't bite off more than you can choose and know as much about the property that you can.
