Vocal ANALYSIS of Tenacious D from "The Pick of Destiny"

Hello everyone! I can't believe the success of this video in the first day... it's insane. Thank you for coming to watch this Tribute! (see what I did there?) I would LOVE to film myself watching The Pick of Destiny for you all, as many requests down below have stated, but I unfortunately can't. There's a lot of filming and projects that I work on, that sometimes I need that buffer between that active listening for analysis videos and enjoyment, and watching this movie falls directly into the enjoyment category. Especially while pregnant, I need ways to turn work off in my head. I'm really sorry. I know you all would want to see my explosion of laughter at certain parts of the film, but I have to care for my mental health the best I can. I love how the kid is literally how I imagine a young Jack Black to be.

That kid needs credit for how well he can imitate Jack Black's mannerisms and facial expressions

I love how Meatloaf's verse and Dio's verse both perfectly fit their musical style.

It’s so weird watching MeatLoaf essentially portrait his own father in this movie. Very smart casting choice.

Fun fact: Dio's verse only took him one take. Imagine making a movie about your band and Dio accepts to participate in it. I would die from my happiness!

It’s so depressing how CRIMINALLY underrated Jack Black is. Not only Jack Black’s voice, but Kyle Gass’s guitar skills, Tenacious D as a band and The Pick Of Destiny as a rock film

"FORM A STRONG ALLIANCE" the way he delivers that phrase is metal as hell.

To have 2 (now deceased) rock legends in this song gives this a lot more weight in the history of music than I think it was initially intended for

Fun Fact: For this film, production actually travelled back in time so they could cast young Jack Black as Young Jack Black just to add to the film's unprecedented realism.

Not only did Dio shred their mic, he then did this in 1 take on his mic. Fuckin legend. He was 64 and still singing with this much power.

One little detail i've always loved is that Meatloaf's section ends up really mirroring Young JB's in the rhythm. To me it's always represented a sort of...truth that the characters are more alike than either would like to admit. And reflecting some of rock's beginnings in gospel music.

The pick of destiny is such a brilliant movie, this song really sets up the story brilliantly and who better to start it than three great styles of singing in Jack Black, Dio and Meat Loaf.

The thing that I've always really liked about Meatloaf's part in this movie, is often Meatloaf's most popular songs are about the drama and freedom of being a teenager, but this time he is on the opposite side as a restrictive and high-strung parent while maintaining that same Steinman-esque style.

Can we just, sit down and appreciate how positive this channel is? I am always in a good mood after a video from Elizabeth.

Jack Black is a sort of modern day bard in his ability to convey a story through song. He's definitely the kind of guy you imagine singing you into battle.

I have no idea how known this fact is, but: "Dio" literally means "God" in Italian. As an Italian, the moment when the father tells him to praise the Lord and he praises Dio instead kills me every time

I just can't stop smiling at how adorable it is to watch a professional opera singer totally fangirling (probably not a word) over JB. It makes the dumpster fire that the world is at the moment feel like a much nicer place 😊 also just fyi the kid playing the young JB also played his younger self in Nacho libre
