What is Visual Thinking?
Not a how-to video, more of a why-care video. Watch to learn why drawing is such a fantastic thinking tool and why I focus on the THINKING in visual thinking.

While I deemphasize imagery in the video, the best in class source to learn iconography for fast, live drawing is bikablo akademie:

Martin Haussmann's book UZMO is a must-read.

I mention "iconitis," the binary thinking of turning each phrase into an icon in The Graphic Facilitator's Guide:

OMG the way she talk , the voice , the body language, the meaning , the content , the visual .... ❤ feel like i'm in the storytale ❤
  • I’m so glad to have found you! It is so validating to see someone who thinks like the way I do. I am a new follower and I will be buying your book! I am struggling with communication because I just can’t find the right words to describe my ideas and because I think so fast I get lost most if not all the time. Thank you so much for being you and for helping us, fellow visual thinkers, learn how to effectively use visual thinking.

I have thought verbally for a long time, and it has crossed my mind more than once how limiting it can be, too slow. Trying to reprogram my thinking to side more in the abstract
  • Really great information that expanded my viewpoint and excitement for visual thinking, thank you Brandy!

This video is awesome. I am a illustrator so i have the drawing part very much covered, but visual thinking is a lot more. You make this so clear and easy. Wonderful.
  • Thank you so much for the video! I'm practicing the visual thinking in my job, and I think the most important benefit of the VT is reduce the overwhelming, that is very difficult but when you are involved with the VT it becomes easy to explain. Thanks again for the video!
  • I love your approach and have watched this video many times. I walked the path and think your work is amazingly clear and helpful at whatever level you are. I am really thankful to you.
  • Thank you! I feel seen and can relate to the processing power of visual thinking tools! I resonate with the way you think so much! 😊 Found this 5 yrs later but right on time! Love it! Seriously.

That was a great video, with a lot of key insights! I loved the idea of the "choices to make meaning", and the fact that you can learn how to make those choices more effectively. I find that one of the barriers that people have with "learning visual thinking" is that the examples you find around there (like your own sketch on this video) are... beautiful, and when you compare with what you can do yourself... well, it turns you down!! And that keeps you away from exploring the power of "less-than-beautiful" visuals.

Thanks, your explanation is very clear.
  • Love it, anything I can use to communicate my ideas. I'm becoming a visual thinker. Thank you
