I have had two shibas now, and absolutely adore this breed. Yes, they can be stubborn, but the loyalty and love they give you makes up for it 1000 fold. Without hyperbolizing or sounding melodramatic, I would absolutely, positively, unequivocally take a bullet for my Shiba’s, because the idea of loosing them just shatters my heart - when I lost the first one, the mental pain, anguish, and overwhelming sorrow was so unbelievably great - that is how much they have imprinted on my heart. Even when I am most irritated and frustrated with my little guy, I can’t stay angry with him long. I become very sad and even cry when I’m away from him too long. His presence in my life so invaluable and adds so much joy and light into my life. To me, my Shiba is truly a priceless gift from god.

If you have a shiba inu, you don't have a dog, but you have a sweetheart.

The best introduction of Shiba I have encountered so far. My 2 years boy black Mameshiba is now quietly wondering through our house from my son’s room to my bedside to my wife’s couch at dawn and being settled at foot of my wife. I don’t train him, he trained me. He rarely barks. He stares when I eat. He sticks his nose out from small space down below the security wall of balcony to look around all day. He loves to be petted by my right foot on his back. We walk twice a day come rain or come storm or snow. He is my everything.

I had mine for 15 years, she was eventually a good dog but an incredibly difficult puppy/ younger dog. I would definitely not recommend them to anyone who isn't extremely patient and already has experience with hyper dogs... and they can legit dig a hole under your fence in a minute or two and get out. Mine never ran off but she definitely dug out quite a few times

All true. Excellent overview. One more thing: They are so worth the extra work.

My Sheba’s have such unique personalities, they are just like my kids. I love them more than I ever thought I would. I’m so happy to have them and can’t imagine being without them.

I have a Shibe. Yes, they are stubborn and shed a TON! My boy loves being cuddled.

The past decade I only have had Shiba Inu’s, they sure do know how to train their owners! Play time is limited, so we take advantage each play time. I am crazy about them

Great video! Living in Japan for 30+ years I learned that Japanese don't refer to their dog's breed "Shiba-inu". Inu means "dog" in Japanese so it sounds strange to say dog after the breed name. So Japanese will call them just "Shiba" or "Shiba--Ken". Inu can also be read as "ken" in the kanji writing. But it seems that it is not a problem to say Shiba-inu in other countries.

I found out all of these issues the hardway. My Shiba Inu's name is Harold & he is now 4 years old and still as energetic as ever. We went thru a really rough patch of him running away several times, scarying the crap out of our family, but we are far more careful now and never allow him off leash outside. Excellent video pointing out all of the big issues you have to deal with this great breed. My other dog is a South African Boerboel and weighs 130 pounds of muscle?! They make a hysterical couple.
  • We have 2, 4 month old Sheebs. OH MY GOD, are my hands full. Talk about stubborn, and training is going so slow, but they are so smart. They learned the word"come" in 15 minutes. Next we try a bath. should be lots of fun. I may just hire a groomer. That scream is not for the faint hearted. I bet the neighbors think we are beating them, or something. We love them so much. they are half brother and sister.

My shiba always goes up to every single dog and stranger to avoid going home!
  • @tuccimane
my shiba loves her food, her sleep, and her belly rubs
  • My friend and my Aunt & Uncle both have a Shiba. They've never met but they both do the weirdest behavior. Throughout the day, they beg to be let outside the front door and sit on the porch. They both just stare at people going by. Anybody else Shiba do this?
  • @yumirei
As the owner of a shiba-inu I confirm, this is all true I would also add that they very rarely bark. Aside from shiba-scream sometimes, they mostly whine if they are annoyed and want something you don't provide them with, like on the walks or when you temporarily restrict the room where they allowed to be
