I have finally started my solo off-grid shipping container home build and I could not be more excited!

In the last couple of weeks, I finished building my own house foundations for under $6k when I was quoted $60k for contractors to do it and I installed a concrete shed slab myself for under $4k!

This week I need to finish prepping the footings and then the containers are finally arriving, along with my extra storage container!

I have recently moved across the country due to the housing crisis and bought an off-grid property with the dream to build my own container house.

I became an owner builder and after 8 months of design and planning I was approved to build my own home in Western Australia.

  • This is what I should have been doing 20 years ago. I love your vision, and your energy to fight through all the setbacks. You are an inspriation.

Next time you need to drill holes in metal try using some oil on the bit. It helps to lubricate and cool the bit so it drills better and doesn't get dull as fast. They make special oil for drilling metal but you can use motor oil if you cannot get the right kind. Any oil will be better than nothing. Also the bigger the drill size you use the slower the drill speed you should use. Just a few useful tip from one who has drilled a lot of holes.
  • Jasmine... I think the internet found the most persistent hard working positive woman on earth... I am looking forward to see each done job... You inspire me!!! Well done... 🎉

Trick for digging with the auger in hard ground, dig as far as you can and then fill the hole with water. Move to the next hole and do the same thing. When you run out of holes go back to the first hole and the water should have softened the clay and you will be able to dig it some more. Keep drilling, keep adding water.

Your accuracy on the foundations clearly made it a breeze for them to deploy the crates!!

Cannot believe what you have achieved by yourself. Amazing.

Engineers have calculated the surface area of the bee's wings, and it should not be able to fly. However, no one has told the bee this, so it just flies.

Awesome progress Jaz. Great to see the containers arrive. The gold colour drill is called a step drill. Lubrication like WD40 helps with drilling steel, also keep your drill bits sharp, can be done with a bench grinder. And mixing two stroke is best done in the jerry can before putting in the auger. Once again absolutely loving the content. Fantastic! Can't wait for the next one. Cheers, Alex.

Very cool project. For next time, the 3-4-5 method to establish a right angle works with any units as long as you measure all the sides using the same units. 3m-4m-5m works or 30cm-40cm-50cm or any variation.
  • I'm an engineer and I still drill shit in reverse and sometimes I will be drilling for a while until I click. Welcome to my world buddy.

  • @MrGibbie2210
I have never seen anyone so overly happy to get shipping containers. Happy for you .
  • A little tip ,when you drill get a small tub of cutting compound it helps your drill bit stay sharp and a bit cooler.

You’re a beast, positive attitude and hard work. Waiting for the next video 👍
  • Utterly amazing work, I cannot imagine the effort both mental and physical! Just one item to make life easier the 3-4-5 triangle to get a right angle works with anything in ratio - 3-4-5 metres, 30-40-50 cm... take your pick. The longer the more precise tho.

You're almost there. Creating reality like a boss!! Remember where you started and always help others ;)

Love the episodes. Keep them coming, thanks for the great content!

Jasmine, use a bit of oil while drilling to keep the bit cool. Also on steel plates like this use a low rpm and you will feel the bit cutting into the steel like butter. Great work again, I love the freedom you created for yourself.
