Lest we forget the late great Cozy Powell on the drums. His live performances of this song were stellar!
  • @ghar7578
This is the top record of Black Sabbath on my list, the very very best. This is how heavy metal should sound, this record is the definition of heavy metal master piece.
  • @mw6901
Sabbath had numerous singers. The Tony Martin era is my personal favourite.
  • I love all the eras of Black Sabbath but the Tony Martin period is criminally underrated.
  • Tony is such an underrated singer! Love his vocals. Sabbath back in the late 80s, early 90s were fantastic. Totally underrated! Headless Cross is an absolutely amazing album.
  • @lichtregen777
Guitar Solo by Mr. Brian May from Queen! Tony Iommi and Brian May are very good friends.
  • @meathead01
The song Nightwing off this album is my absolute favorite. Haunting and ethereal.
  • Not Ozzy. Not Dio. That is the immortal Tony Martin. I saw them live in 1994-Motorhead opened. Amazing doesn't cover it. Thanks for the pickup, lad.

This is easily one of the top 10 vocal performances in the Black Sabbath discography. There are a handful of Sabbath tunes that give me goosebumps every time I hear them and this is one of them

Polo you are absolutely correct! The Tony Martin era of Black Sabbath is incredible.
  • By the late '80s everyone had pretty much given up on Black Sabbath ... So it was actually quite a shock to anyone still paying attention when no-name vocalist Tony Martin outperformed a string of higher-profile predecessors with his contributions to Sabbath's unexpected 1987 return to form, The Eternal Idol, then pulled off the even more remarkable feat of being invited back for a second go-round via 1989's equally satisfying Headless Cross ... This includes morbid monster-pieces such as "Kill in the Spirit World" and "Call of the Wild," which quake with simply massive power chords yet still manage to flow seamlessly into slightly more upbeat radio-friendly numbers like "Devil and Daughter" and "Black Moon." Likewise, whereas "When Death Calls" is surely one of Iommi's most spine-chilling compositions ever in terms of sheer malevolent force, the equally bewitching "Nightwing" flips the coin entirely with its delicate acoustic guitars and (dare it be said) highly romantic lyrics. In short, for those wise enough to appreciate Black Sabbath's discography beyond the Osbourne and Dio essentials, there can be no better place to start than Headless Cross or its worthy predecessor, The Eternal Idol. - excerpted from AllMusic
  • Tony Martin is still performing today. He appears with a lot of other artists such as Dario Mollo, Empire, Rondinelli, Black Widow, etc. He also has solo albums- the most recent - Thorns is great.

Great to see Tony get the love respect he deserves my fav sabbath singer.😊

This whole album is great. πŸ‘ Headless Cross is my favorite of the Tony Martin era, but they're all great. Thanks for giving this a spin. Brings back some great memories of driving back and forth to college with this CD. During a time when metal music was put on the back burner due to the surge of grunge. 🀘 Keep em coming brother!
  • AMIGO!!!! This era of Sabbath was under appreciated & underrated…Tony Martin had some of the most drama free years with Sabbath….plus this album β€œHeadless Cross” is one of their best!!! Ozzy, Dio, Gillan & Hughes were awesome bro, but Tony has such a cinematic, full & sinister voice. He was great for Sabbath & a lot of the time, I pull this album & anything Tony Martin is on before I go to Dio or Ozzy Sabbath albums….try reacting to the song Headless Cross, Devil & Daughter to start off…to go deeper, go to the album β€œTYR” & check out The Sabbath Stones, Valhalla, Jerusalem & Feels Good to Me…for further Martin-led Sabbath albums, check out Eternal Idol, Cross Purposes & Forbidden….it’s a great rabbit hole to go down bro 🀘🏽🀘🏽🀘🏽🀘🏽🀘🏽🀘🏽🀘🏽🀘🏽🀘🏽
  • Amazing Tony Martin!!! Hail Black Sabbath, that was a studio versiΓ³n!!!
