We are now in mid January, two and a half months after this job, and I'm still dealing with hip and leg pain from that fall. It's waking me up at night. My injuries didn't fully reveal themselves for about a week after the job. I'm still uncertain of the full extent of damage. I think I may have fractured a bone in my foot but I never went to the hospital to get anything checked. It is only because I've herniated disks in my back before that I know what some of this pain is. Yes, I have a herniated disk, likely from when I landed with my full weight plus forty pounds of tools on my right knee sending a shock through my back.

We recently returned from the Hive Life conference where I was in pretty severe pain most of the time but I hid it the best I could. No one knew I was injured except my wife. By the end of day two of the conference I was sitting down as much as possible. We were able to bring my dad to the conference and with the aid of a wheel chair he got to attend most of both days. For a little while I thought I was going to need to join him in a wheel chair of my own. I am now trying to stay off my feet and recuperate. That's tough to do and still make a living but we'll get by. I have to be ready for 2022 cut outs so rest and recovery is my focus at the moment.

I have to give big love to Mike Barry and Rick (can't remember Rick's last name but he's from Idaho) for both pitching in to help with unloading, setup and re loading of our booth before and after the conference. Those guys and two other's whose names I can't recall were an immense help. They saved my bacon without knowing the need. Thank you guys!!

  • I’m binge watching your videos! I hope you see this comment, even though the video is more than 2 years old. You and your wife are adorable. You’re just a big teddy bear and your wife is sweet and beautiful..your photography at the end of the videos are incredible and give me a warm feeling. I retire in 4 years and after binge watching so many beekeeping videos I’m inspired to start backyard beekeeping in my retirement! I’m mesmerized by the bees! Thank you for the incredible videos!
  • Glad to see you up walking around at the Hive life conference after a spill like that!!! Also wanted to tell you that the scenic shots you add to your beekeeping removals is so inspiring to make a person get up and move to go see stuff like that!!! Keep up the amazing work!!!
  • @bluzervic
I love watching your hive removals. Especially when all the jokes roll in. Hope you are feeling better after that fall

I walked for 6 months on a broken foot, telling myself to suck it up, cupcake. It'll heal. Finally I went to the doctor and ended up having to have surgery to remove all the bone fragments. Save yourself months of trouble and just go and get it fixed.

Sorry about the fall...those injuries can take a while to heal! Remember when climbing up a ladder "good (leg) up first" and when climbing down "bad (leg) down first". That was a life changer for me. Great footage of the sunset!
  • @egparis18
Hey DirtRooster. Thank you for the video, the photography, the music, the sunset. They are much appreciated. You're in my thoughts. I hope you get better soon. Having rheumatoid arthritis and sciatica myself, I have an idea how you feel. Don't let it get you down. God bless and see you soon.

Randy, so sorry you fell and got hurt and hopefully there’s no permanent ailments from the fall! That was a beautiful sunset and great footage especially to be driving while filming. It was good to talk to you in TN and one of these days I’m going to come down your way and catch up with you on your turf.

The sky is beautiful and what a sunset thank you Randy
  • @ZelmaBees
There was so much smoke coming out of that smoker, my eyes started to water. Hope your knee recovers fully. Thanks for posting the beautiful sunset video Randy.

I completely understand your being frustrated about being told, "You didn't put the wood back properly." Especially seeing the extensive disrepair the rest of that place was in. But it's your good name on the job. Hope your legs heal up quickly.
  • Pete we missed you at the HLC!! Randy, we are praying for you after that bad fall.
  • @dsummerscm
Pete’s fear of rats cracks me up! I think that was the fall you took right before we came to visit. Another awesome video!
  • I did a similar fall back two years ago. Whoever did the lawn on the side of the sidewalk had a wide enough mower that they went over a pretty significant dip in the ground and cut all the grass at the same height making the dip completely invisible. I was helping my brother-in-law move and went to go put something in the back of the car and bam down I went right onto my knee without being able to brace myself because I was carrying something heavy. Then had to continue to work since my brother-in-law had to be out within the next two days. My knees swelled up, and I could hear it creaking and occasionally grinding on each other. Finally convinced my parents to let me off and got some inflammatory drugs for it. Knee wasn't right for about three months after that but did eventually heal fully by staying off of it completely.
  • @bogipepper
Heal like a youngster. After the citrus run in Manatee county the saw palmetto honey comes next and is a favorite for folks with allergies.
  • @sonofthunder.

Good luck with your injury. You did such a good job of describing it my knee hurts now.
