Why is SpongeBob's Spinoff Airing on Nick Jr. Now?

The SpongeBob SquarePants spinoff, Kamp Koral, has made its Nick Jr. debut. Nickelodeon's pre-school channel is a programming block separate from Nickelodeon, aimed towards much younger audiences. Does a SpongeBob series really fit in here? What's going on?

SpongeBob SquarePants has always been the kind of cartoon for all ages, although Kamp Koral does skew a bit younger. While it may feel weird to see the spinoff airing episodes on Nick Jr., it's a way to build a bigger audience.

  • Just imagine this being your first experience with SpongeBob and then having to cope with how different the main series looks.

Should we even be surprised? Nick Jr. IS a Nickelodeon channel after all.
  • Spongebob is for EVERYONE, some episodes of Spongebob can appeal to younger kids, but modify it a little.

As many have said already, Kamp Koral airing on Nick Jr actually makes a lot of sense. If anything, it's a wonder why Nick didn't do that from the beginning

Then again, Nick Jr has aired Rugrats(Classic one) on rare occasions a bunch of times. Not just in the 90s and 00s, but they’ve done it back in the summer of 2014 if I remember correctly.

YES! Kamp Koral makes so much more sense as a Nick Jr series. The style and animation fits well with shows like Paw Patrol and Blaze, and now younger audiences can get into the franchise. They should've done this from the start.
  • I mean I’ve wanted SpongeBob to also be on Nick Jr when I was a toddler but it was only on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons, so it’s understandable to me now that SpongeBob is a kids show but just not babies and toddlers that much. If anything it’s obviously just for everyone of all ages anyway.

SpongeBob is evolving to be truly the Mickey Mouse of Paramount and no matter you go on Paramount propertys, Spongebob will be there.
  • I think the kamp koral spin-off is perfect for Nick Jr because it’s a YOUNGER version of the characters and the Nick Jr channel is all about that demographic so it makes perfect sense.
  • Nick Jr also used to air Rugrats when the Face host mascot was introduced and Noggin used to air the Nick era of Doug from its inauguration launch in February 2, 1999-April 1, 2002 back when it was an educational pre-teens channel before it became the preschool platform that it still is today

I remember that the Loud House aired on Nick Jr. a while back maybe 2016-2018ish but when it was late at night at 9-11pm when most of Nick Jr's primary demographic is asleep.

Kamp Koral makes sense on Nick Jr. It'd be weird to see the main show on there, though.

Sometimes I wonder if Nickelodeon plans to make SpongeBob live action instead of letting him die...
  • @lilsus1607
Well, the Spongebob spinoff DID give the impression that it was for little kids so, I think I know why Nick did that

Fun fact: reruns of Rugrats aired on Nick Jr in Ireland and Britain in 2010-2011.
