"we all live in a cage with the door wide open" good quote from dean.
  • I never forget something Dean says in his books. When I'm running and feeling tired. BABY STEPS. pick a spot up the road, get to that point and so on and so on until you push past the wall... always works for me
  • I read Ultramarathon man right AFTER Born to Run. It was the PERFECT follow-up as my mind was locked immediately on running 100. Several 100's later. Im in debt to Dean, he is a living Legend.

Thanks to both of you guys for doing this interview. I'm 51 and a heart attack survivor. I turned my life around 3 years ago and am driven to do many of the same things you guys have been doing. I'm a marathoner now, and will be taking it to a higher level soon. I look forward to meeting both of you as my career progresses.
  • This is the most relaxed I’ve ever seen Dean in an interview situation.

Thank you for this. It helped me get my head back in the right space to start running again. At 49, running is a new thing for me. I started this year and was up to 3 miles/day on work days and 5 miles/day on the weekend. Then, for some reason I stopped and then tried to get going again. I was doing 1.5/miles a day about 3 days/week. Today, after listening to this podcast last night, I ran 3 miles. (I would've run farther but I have to go to work). Thanks for the motivation.

RICH !!! You have completely inspired me to get myself healthy and strong. I have changed my eating to Vegan and I am loving life again. Feeling great and keeping it clean.  Thank you for all the inspiration and knowledge!!! "Always Love"

Dean sums up a large portion of my teenage life through inspiration and mental visualisation of what is possible for a human and what may be possible through my own mental fortitude. It's a feeling I cannot shake and will never go.
  • I searched Dean in Twitter randomly. I messaged him and told him how his book and story got me from zero to running multiple marathons. Yesterday re messaged me back. I'm so pumped. So I found this great podcast. Put myself on a 5 day water fast, I'm gonna drop a couple kilos and get the runners back on. I'm from uk but seeing out this situation in Sri lanka where I was tra6when lockdown started. Been here a year travelling but not running enough. Im back now. Thanks Rich. You're the best speaker. You describe everything perfectly. Peace and plants 🥰🥦🥒🌽🥝🥭🍇🍈🍉🙏🙏🙏

This was one of my absolute favorite episodes of this podcast. Thanks, Dean and Rich!
  • I'm one of those people who wrote him with no expectation of receiving a response. He's literally the only "celebrity" that I've ever written to. I merely wanted to thank him for his inspiration and was blown away by that personalized answer. It's that responsibility to his fan base that keeps so many of us connected to him.
  • @AdamPreset
I watch this while running on the treadmill. It was great motivation!
  • @aj37ful
I was reading his book 'The Road To Sparta' in Sparta for the Spartan Race WC this November. Being surrounded by the very same history he spoke of was something else.
  • Sometimes I just can't handle this Rich Roll California-attitude. Rich is a self made, rich, super man and has tons of friends and so on. Allways having equal friends on the show, takling about things that only few people can relate to, luxury problems. But, this interview, showed me that my life situation, being more poor and fucked compared in My optics, , also "just" is a life and it's mine and mine to deal with. Thanks guys, I really needed that, we're not that different after all.
  • You are both amazing!!! Such an inspiration to me.I've been following for podcast Rich for about a year now, it's been a blessing, through my long runs. Can wait to see Dean back in Greece, next spring. Thanks a lot!!!
  • @zacha7469
your discussion about an unhealthy relationship with food hit home for me. It is a HUGE issue that is not very well talked about in our community
  • @jorgeromera3861
Riveting chat between two amazing runners and great human beings!
