"No Quarter" from Tool's "Salival" album (2000).
I had never heard of this song before, so I didn't know what to expect. The only thing I knew is that the ending is pretty crazy because I've seen Maynard run around on stage whilst screaming during that "Best Maynard Screams" video. Anyway, this song was quite frustrating to cover to be honest. The amount of strings that you have to mute is ridiculous. I almost changed my mind about playing it with a pick, but I just had to. And that's not all! The breakdown was impossible to transcribe. I'm pretty sure that you hear 2 different basslines, rumbling on at once. How did justin make it even more difficult? By playing all these random variations with flanger and delay.. Great song though.

Some important information that nobody is going to read.

Led Zeppelin made such a brilliant canvas for Tool to paint over. Such an amazing song, and you did a brilliant job playing it.

Wow. I honestly don't know what to say. So much emotion for me. My dad and I used to listen to Led Zeppelin together any chance we would get. He passed away 13 years ago. I just listened to this song and you brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for this wonderful cover.
  • The intricacy of the main riff shines with the bass standing out like this.

Nice work! I often wonder if JC used a whammy during the intro, verses, and "solo" on the Salival recording. Octave up on the whammy side, but played an octave down on the fretboard. There seems to be a shimmer to the notes that goes beyond what the flanger & delay add to wide open Wal filters that smacks of whammy to me. He doesn't play those fills live other than the "solo", so no evidence to support that theory other than my ear & experimentation.
