Range Report: Masterpiece Arms MPA DS9 Hybrid (2011 style pistol)

Published 2023-07-17
In this Range Report I take a look at and shoot the the Masterpiece Arms MPA DS9 Hybrid 2011 style pistol. This gun is chambered in 9mm and is a copy of the popular 2011 by STI. This is from a company I did not know much about before shooting this firearm. Overall, I am very impressed with it and one thing I like is the metal grip module which is an upgrade over the polymer ones many other companies offer. This video documents my personal opinions, experiences and thoughts on this really interesting offering from Masterpiece Arms.

Putting your thumb over the safety when shooting prevents it from actuating accidentally and gives you extra leverage for controlling recoil. Been shooting competitively for years, and competitors like extended safeties exactly for that.
  • @samglasgow5613
Important to note this is a gun produced before travis came aboard to MPA. Many many quality improvements since then
  • @nrf2009
The grip on that model is the competition grip. If you don't like the aggressiveness you can get a less aggressive option when ordering. I believe the same can be said about the magwell.
  • @Tavo0331
I have that grip module on my Staccato P. I love how aggressive it is. They do make two other options not as aggressive.
  • @king9326dab
I have it and had a gen one upgrade. Great gun . Love it . That safety I understand you .
  • @wendellhatcher7011
Just put in my order for mines with the ported upgrade. I can't wait until it is done.
  • @gair1944
LOVED your candid honest review. All points well taken. That Maxwell looks unnecessarily large to me as well. I also dislike having to change my grip to drop the slide. Some will say, ride the Safety and you won't accidentally engage it. But your point about dropping the slide with the slide stop also looks potentially problematic to bump the thumb safety. Hmmm. I appreciate your candor. That said, that thing is a tack driver and very sexy!
  • @Thomas-vt7cz
Jason I really find you very entertaining your reviews are well done bruh but there is one thing I come to expect from you and that is your common conjunctions you use them quite often example: It's okay if or and If it had and but if they would have... If and, but... I know it's coming and I wait for it because I know you're going to use those words to deflate my excitement with the product... LOL 😎
  • @mjohnson43136
They can’t call it a 2011 because that is a trademarked name owned by Staccato.
  • @phillandall3159
These are your opinions dude! The XC 💩’s all over the MPA DS9 hybrid imo!
  • Hopefully you can help me out.I want to order one in either The idpa version or uspsa version with full dust cover. What is the width of the grip?Or what is the circumference etc..I have medium hands , not small or big..I can't handle one because nobody in my area or surrounding areas has one.I have been looking hard at this gun for a while. If you know the width and demensions please let me know.I don't want to be out over 3 grand for this gun.I have to be absolutely sure before i order.Gteat video!.
  • @071Tom
and that would be because there is only only one "2011" Staccato has a copy right on that name.
  • @tsim4139
I think it's your hand size because if I remember you can't activate the slide stop or slide release on the Staccato C2 with your thumb..
  • @TheVinceZampella
Grip texture can be changed which is cool. I went with the aggressive aluminum, I wanted it to bite back like a pineapple. Will see how that goes for me. I have heard the stainless grips are even more aggressive. Thanks for the video As for the safety, you want your thumb to ride it on these guns. Most 1911 shooters will just rack from the front of the slide, but if you use the slide stop, keep riding the safety and actuate it with your off hand. They also offer a smaller magwell but it just doesn’t do it for me. I’m curious if my hand is going to ride the way yours is on that enlarged magwell. Was worried about it, and now I’m a little more worried seeing it happen to you.

Hi, anybody know a kydex holser for this gun? Thanks
  • @nickreyes6323
I was expecting to hear that the gun was on loan to the channel from your good friend "D." You threw me for a loop. Ha ha ha.
