Today, I am talking to Trevor Noah. Trevor is the most successful comedian in Africa and is the host of the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central. Under Trevor, “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” has broken free from the restraints of a 30-minute linear show, producing engaging social content, award-winning digital series, podcasts and more for its global audience. He has written, produced, and starred in 11 comedy specials, including his most recent, “Trevor Noah: Son of Patricia,” which launched in November 2018 on Netflix. He is the author of the #1 New York Times bestseller “Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood” and its young readers adaptation “It’s Trevor Noah: Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood,” which also debuted as a New York Times bestseller.

Trevor opens the conversation by sharing what it was like growing up, how he sees the rest of the world, and why it felt like it was okay growing up the way he did. We then exchange thoughts and perspectives on topics such as finding the true meaning of having a ‘home’, the type of friends we often surround ourselves with and why, finding independence in a completely new and foreign place, and being mindful of yourself and in one with your inner thoughts.

I like to say “I’m not grateful for my suffering but I found meaning in it. And that meaning is what I’m grateful for “

"The only thing scarier than accepting who we are is accepting that we don't know who we will be when we let go of the things that have made us who we are today."
  • I'm nearly 70 years old. I just discovered these podcasts. It's work like this that gives me hope for the future. There are so many wonderful younger people, like you, doing amazing work. Thank you.

Trevor Noah is a true Son of Africa. The depth of mindfulness. The spirituality. The empathy. The kindness. The humor. I miss my brothers and sisters of Africa.

I have 4 sons. I'll consider myself a successful mother if they turn out with Trevor Noah's character traits. I want them to have his empathy, compassion, understanding, wisdom, and ability to see humor in life.

This is, by far, one of the BEST "brain-picking", thought-provoking & eye-opening interviews I've ever watched! Trevor's way of thinking is utterly mind-blowing & completely OUT OF THIS WORLD!👏🏾❤️

I like "Your friends in life are your horcruxes. We break ourselves into parts. Whenever we meet people, we give them a part of ourselves."
  • @PriyaTilkar
I love how clearly he is able to think and explain his thoughts ❤️ Sometimes I really can't find words to explain what I am thinking.

21:12 -- "My definition of home has always been where I feel I am living my purpose." 🤔

That comfort in chaos phenomenon Trevor talks about hit deeply for me...

Two lessons I’ve learnt from this episode: 1) I need to reevaluate my safety net and determine whether certain parts of myself that I’m holding onto are actually holding me back. 2) In order to learn and understand others, it is necessary to let go of self. One word for this episode - wow.

There's just something about listening to Trevor. I could do it all day. And the way they bounce energies and ideas off of each other is so refreshing. I love this!
  • I still remember when Trevor was a small time presenter on some South African kids program. His climb has been something out of the heavens.
