Some of my thoughts on the new Netflix movie You People by Kenya Barris. I also share some of my thoughts on how interracial dating is often being portrayed in movies. As always I want to ask you to keep it respectful in the comment section!

Thanks for watching! X

Thank you all so much for watching, giving your opinions and sharing your perspectives! Appreciate it a ton. But most of all thank you for keeping it respectful in this comment section ❤️
  • Here’s a good lesson: Whenever you see a star-studded cast, let that be a red flag to you!🚩🚩🚩 It’s nothing but a marketing tool to reel viewers in.

I just loved how they once again used a biracial woman to portray a woman who had two dark skinned parents, but their son is dark skinned and unambiguously black ☺️ /s
  • "Something New" is a good example of a movie that examined the two individual's feelings vs family approval.
  • I actually stopped watching the movie half way through bc I was exhausted. I felt like I needed to rest and recharge before I watched the rest of it

It’s weird how most interracial relationships of importance are portrayed as black and white but there’s black and Asian Asian and white Latino and Asian. African and Asian. I’m black but I want to see more cultural diversity in a films which would be a more accurate reflection of real life.

As a white man married to a black woman we were excited for this movie. As it began to unfold I really began to hate this movie. I found people were either totally ignorant or just assholes. My wife totally agreed with me.

Let's face it. People in Hollywood don't have the guts to produce the kinds of films we want to see more of. That's why 'Jungle Fever ' and 'Get Out' are praised by many. Because Spike and Jordan have Guts.

Thank you Sagid for saying interracial relationships do not have to include a white person. If done smart, I'd love to see a story about other races and cultures dealing with relationships. Movies like that should have happened a long time ago. Sad that it's 2023 and they are only still just possibilities.

I’m Greek and my big fat Greek wedding is still absolutely hilarious to me. My husband is Caribbean and we can both relate to the movie. Especially when I introduced him to my big fat Greek family. Love your channel! You are beautiful! Keep it up! ❤

I know it’s just a movie but it gave a stereotypical look at interfaith, interracial and inter ethnicity relationships. Most people/families are not that ignorant to other race or cultures. I am in a inter ethnicity marriage as my husband is Puerto Rican. Both our families were very accepting of us. I felt this movie was just scrabbling and lazy with the whole concept and it felt rushed. It had so much potential to do a new take on interracial relationships but it fell flat.
  • The behavior of both sides didn't feel real. The setting is Los Angeles; which is a diverse city. Interracial dating in LA is very, very common.

I feel you, but Kenya Barris is a one-trick pony. He's not (yet) a movie director, but he's the flavor of the moment and keeps getting opportunities despite the phukk shit. Had Jordan Peele directed this, it would've AT LEAST been funny and cinematic. And I imagine that the casting would've been better, too. No way Jonah Hill's parents would look like those two people (such a weird choice by Kenya) or Eddie and Nia having a kid that looks like Lauren London. Just bad storytelling all around.

Lovebirds is the first movie I have seen where being interracial was secondary to the storyline. It also had two pocs .. Black and Indian Love 💕. I wish it got waay more credit !
  • I completely agree, Sagid! It was a struggle to watch this movie and it just made zero sense. I thought your review was really refreshing because you really broke down how far backwards we went with this — it was a mess and so over dramatized. thank you for your great video! new sub ❤
  • 2 things: After seeing Coming 2 America, I gave Eddie the side eye… And that’s a whole other conversation for another day. And once I saw the preview with him jumping in her car thinking it was an Uber, I was like No thank You. Nothing about that preview made me think I really wanna see this movie.
