Just chatting? Good lighting, lots of space, clean desk, well hydrated. Playing rage game? One flashlight, hunched over, on the floor, no mouse room, in some abandoned closet.

It's so nice to see Mark taking a break from the stress of Iron Lung. Hopefully, he can get some much needed rest and relaxation.

The fact the developer added these pools as a sort of checkpoint system was honestly a beautiful bit of mercy.

  • You know when you're like 8, and "helping" your dad with his project in the garage, or fix the sprinkler system outside, or fix a leaky faucet? And it starts out as fun, you get to see some cool stuff and hold the flashlight. But after y'all are five hours into the project things have devolved... Mark's shouting about reality and explaining monitors "calmly" reminds me of a dad shouting at the project and as a kid you do really know what to do so you just watch the situation awkwardly. So... Keep it up Mark, we'll just all be here holding the flashlight...

Okay so, for anyone wondering, no there's no RNG. What's actually happening is that the physics is pretty meticulous: every material has a specific friction, and rocks are not at the maximum they're just really high. Too wild a change in momentum will make you slip. On top of that, your momentum is VERY specific. The reason he struggled with the wheel was because he was coming in from too high an angle, making his momentum too fast to grab onto it. tl;dr no there's no rng, the physics are just complex enough to roughly emulate the chaos effect.

personal theory: whenever you are playing a game or doing something that seems simple but is suddenly very hard; take a step back, evaluate if you are hungry or thirsty. its incredible how much hunger can tank performance. i was very frustrated building a loft bed once, and after 3 hours walked away to eat a sandwich. came back and was able to assemble the part that had been frustrating me in less than 30 minutes. a sandwich made all the difference.

Marks transition from a raging maniac six years ago to a semi-patient human being will forever bamboozle me

26:45 "*WHYY-* ohhh my thank you. oh my, thank you." the exasperated noise of someone barely clinging on to sanity

I once heard an archer describe the way of learning a skill. You train every day, until the act of shooting an arrow becomes muscle memory and you do it completely by instinct. That's when you start to think about other things, because your mind is free and then you start to notice your mistakes. That moment shatters your instincts and completely breaks your routine. You actually have to start to train the whole process from the beginning, just like an amateur, but you do every movement with complete awareness of what you do and when you reach the point of instinct again, you are a perfect archer.

Whoever did this did an amazing job. It's incredible that after one of the most soul-crushing segments of the game, the game asks you to do a leap of faith into ice. Mf ice. And then obviously you slip and for a moment you think you are about to lose it all. And then you hit the water. Genius
