  • Hi, I was the owner of Gulfstream Jeep in Lantana FL for years we restrestored numerous vehicles over the years. I've been dealing with cancer for the last few years and only think it's been bearable watching your videos which I've now begun having to watch many a second time. This post has been without a doubt one of your best if I can say that. I enjoy the food at the end of most posts since I've been on a feeding tube the last few months. Thank you for giving an old car guy something to look forward to each week.

The fact that Dennis always pretty much buys the whole menu at those small mom and pop restaurants shows he is not only buying cars but helping these businesses out
  • @HoosierHacker
We are dying to have an update on this shelby! Its just so cool I keep watching the episode. What a story.
  • @1986XRV8
Warms my heart knowing that there are still so many decent people out there. Thank you Dennis for bringing this little slice of humanity to us weekly.

What an absolutely incredible episode to start the year off with.

US 30 Dragstrip was always advertised as being in Gary Indiana. Up until 1971 it was actually in Ross Township on Clay Street about a 1/4 north of US 30. In 1971 the area was incorporated into the town of Merrillville Indiana. The dragstrip closed down in the mid 80s because people started to complain about the noise since new home started to be built. Sunday was race day and the announcer always said Sunday Sunday Sunday. Remnants of the track are still there including the IHRA painted logo at the starting line area. If you Google map US30 and Clay street Hobart Indiana ( the area was annexed by the larger city in the late 90s ) and follow clay street north you can still see the drag strip on the left ( west ). Back in the day Don Garlitts, Don the Snake Prudome and I think even John Force raced there. There’s quite the following for the track by the people that raced and attended races there. I live about 5 miles from the track and grew up in the town from 1976 until 1987. It was cool to see the sticker on the windshield.

Dennis, this is a long shot but back in the 90s I worked for Al Vanderslice at Speed Frame Engineering in Farmersville CA. Al was huge into drag Mustangs and Shelby stuff, and was a dealer for Holman Moody. He had started building a straight axle 67 Mustang like this one (years before I worked for him). If he's still around, he may have some knowledge of this car that might help authenticate it. Awesome find. Best of luck.

Dennis. A friends grandma may have owned this Shelby. Her husband was Cal Customs the fiberglass guy. Just finding out. Will get them to email you
  • @Mike583
It's unreal to still find these legends of Mr. Shelby!❤
  • The History lesson with these rescue's is Outstanding. Thanks Dennis.

Chevy Guy here , But this find ranks one of the most Unique ones i've seen in a while . A car not seen since late 60 and a SHELBY !! 🤯🤯 Hope this video would get someone out there to shed some more light and history into .. Great purchase Dennis ! 👍👍😎
  • @luap216
The dudes you bought this from are so impressive. Their knowledge, their in depth research efforts and care for not only the car but all the parts is tremendous. I would trust these guys in any deal. Real straight shooters who care more about the cars past and future than they do about lining their pockets. Kudos!
  • @scottburrow8717
I’m glad you got this car Dennis. It’s definitely in good hands.
  • @rickweeks6513
The way Dennis treats people is incredible! Unlike others who beat people up on their price he always treats them fair. I love how he treats them and his crew to dinner,, he really appreciates how hard they work. And he shows It. You get a lot more out of your employees like that. A lot of the other shows they don’t do that just give unrealistic deadlines. I would rather have it done correctly. Even if it takes a little longer. I would like to see some of the shop work when their getting restored
  • @dusty265
Being from the area. and a kid growing up in the 1960's and 1970's US30 was an important track, but sense this car has a Burbank heritage, don't overlook the Oswego Drag strip that was out in Oswego Illinois. If you were from the area, you knew Bill Wildt, he for many years had a Show Motor Sports Unlimited, unfortunately he passed last year in December. But if you are able to contact his estate, if anyone had film or pictures of this car, he was the guy. It's not much but those old guys from the era that this car is from are still around. Good luck in your search
  • @BamaDad
Proof positive that good things happen to great people! Dennis you're always a class act!
  • @sohmann66
Hey Dennis awesome find , I personally live about 5 mi from where that race track was can't say I remember seeing it race at us 30 but there's a place in schererville Indiana that holds the US 30 dragstrip reunion every year it's called whites pit stop on US 30 I go there every year to show my cars they display a lot of old pictures maybe somebody there can give you more information on this car
  • Incredible attention to detail! You can tell that they wanted someone who would care about this car and that this person was Dennis. Let's hope that there is a part 2 to this story. This car needs to be living and breathing again. If you go back and watch again, you can see that Dennis is not just listening, he is absorbing every detail including some of the stories of where this car has been. Great way to start the year!
  • @r.sewell4327
What a treat to watch. Shelby car history and an Italian dinner to finish it up. Thank you so much for what you do with these cars. As stated in the video, when the old timers pass on, the stories and history go with them if not preserved by people like you. This is true American history.
