Seal Left Helpless by Fishing Net

Published 2021-07-31
All four rescuers run into the seal colony to investigate a black entanglement which they later found lying loose on the beach, not attached to a seal.
Antoine and Denzil immediately find entangled seals and they successfully catch them with the small rescue nets. Denzil's seal has a deep cut around his neck, a situation that has been all too familiar lately. Antoine's seal is actually a recapture, a seal that has been rescued before. The remaining scar has healed beautifully, but there is a good chance we will catch him again one day as it is difficult to spot the difference between an entanglement and a scar from a distance.
The third seal of the day is not suffering from a tiny fishing line, he has a massive green anchovy net wrapped around his body. There is simply no possibility that this seal would have survived very long. The net made hunting and even swimming impossible. Naude holds the seal while Tony unwraps and soothes him. As soon as he is free, he runs back to the ocean to start his recovery and have a good meal.
In the meantime, Wally and Denzil rescued another seal from snoek fishing line, a very worthwhile rescue run. 🦭

I am truly jealous of these guys. I could think of no better way to spend my days than helping these incredible creatures. Why discovery channel isn't beating down your door for a show that would be an instant hit is unbelievable. May your feet be fast and your patients all survive.
  • @margi6035
You guys are a credit to us all. The pain and suffering that you relieve these seals of is so rewarding to you all, I am sure.❤
  • @clicliw
Ive watched a bunch of these videos over the last 3-4 days and I'm always blown away by the sheer stamina you all have to be able to run so far and fast on SAND no less, thank you all so much for your hard work!
  • @chaoyoong9987
thank you Antoine, Denzil, Naude, Wally for cutting lines and removing nets. On behalf of all the seals you guys have freed, thank you for saving their lives. Many would eventually die from septic wounds or unable to eat. You guys are the seal angels with nets. Continue to free and release. Appreciate all your time and effort plus compassion in making sure all seals are not tangles

The way the seal jumped when they got the green net off of him. He was so happy. You guys are amazing. And so compassionate. I can't stop watching these videos. You guys are heros.

This precious baby hasn’t been able to eat because of that net! I hate seeing what happens when these seals are entangled and fighting for their life! I’m so grateful to the rescuers…it brought tears of joy to my eyes when they pulled the net off. GREAT JOB, THANK YOU… United States here🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Thanks, Antoine, for spotting this poor seal. How in the world did he ever make it back to the beach after being wrapped up so completely in that net?! Good work!! 👏😇🙏🌊❤

Can't see, can't feed, can't swim---can't live. This is so sad but OCN is there to make it right. Bravo!
  • This looks like a very healthy seal population as far as numbers go. Imagine how many of those pups would have never been born if you didn't save their mothers and fathers from their entanglements. Great job as always.
